groin strikes
Groin is between the legs, and with a straight rearkick, your target should be the bladder. To hit the groin, you have to go in a upward angle. A upward rear kick flip is the only way to strike the groin with a rear kick. The reverse sword hand is another way. Also you can use a front snap kick ...

Mass knife laws
In general the blade length sould not be more than 3 inches in length. But if your an expert with the knife, you can make 3 inches of cold steel work for you. Also, I don't think any state would allow a knife with a spring activated blade.

Karate really for me?
I have taught martial arts for 34 years, and 60% never reach blackbelt. They get excited watching movies, and then when they find out you have to work for it, it takes on a different viewpoint. Just like accounting, you have to study and work at it. But maybe mentally your just not "into" any ...

bare knuckle sparring
Back in the "old" days, when I learned and taught Kenpo Karate for my belts, we always spared with no protection. This is the best way. It is more like reality. But you need a good instructor to referee, so no one gets killed. One should go to a dojo to learn how to protects oneself, not to be ...

forms or "katas"
I learned many Katas from two arts. I taught for 20 years fighting in my mind--forms or no forms. I feel I have reached the right conclusion and that is no forms! Now I know you di-hards in forms will argue, but why? If that is the road you choice to follow, so be it. But this is why I picked my ...

Trapping
I am 5'2", 130 pounds. I have found trapping does work for me. An attacker starts to attack, I shuffle in and pressing my left forearm against his and against his body, I then strike with my right. I may then drop my right to trap his forearm and then my left does some damage. I also, lock his leg ...

Violence
I started years ago my martial arts training to protect myself. I am very small for a man and after I learned up to blue belt, which was sufficient for protection, I fell in love with the techniques. It became a way to defend myself, and a hobby. To learn new techniques was a challenge. Since then ...

Bruising vs. Conditioning
I have been in Martial Arts for 34 years. My advice, stop hurting yourself! Centuries ago, martial arts had to harden their body parts, but not in civilized society. I have black belts in two types of Kenpo Karate and have taken Aikido. I put together my own art called Aikikenjitsu. I have used it ...
