Attacked in a Stairwell

For crying out loud Dana! Everytime you have a senerio it is worse than the last one! Is the next guy gonna have a gernade launcher and two buddies?

Ok, I am your giunna pig again.

I figure he can't really shoot in the stairwell without endaring his partner. He is above and the unarmed fella is ...

Blocking kicks with your arms

I don't know much about your systems blocking but what I can relate if that you are having trouble with your blocks and it is not the arm/hand postion than go back and re-evualte your positioning. If the kick is generating too much power for you you may be too far away. Try to crowed the kick when ...

Women as Martial Arts Instructors

If you want to share your feelings about training than you should definitly find a woman instructor. Woman love it when you want to share how you feel. I am not saying this to be funny. I am being serious. If you are trying to explore your emotions when training tan a woman instructor is ...

You said, "you forgot some of my favorites, lead right hand and the overhand right." A lead right hand is a southpaw jab and an overhead right is a cross. There is only 4 punches in boxing. But You did point out two things that are so much more important that I didn't post. One you said ...

Ribo,

If you are thinking of adding learning boxing in addition to judo you are about to enter a whole new world and the kickboxing style of tkd and others will not be so frighting to you. I have trained with non-competive, amatuer and pro-boxers and have found that they have a lot to offer ...

Go Rin No Sho

I have read it a couple of times recommended lots of times bought it as presents for martial artists who didn't have a copy of it and keep a small travel size one when I am on road trips. It was one of the most read books in the world, and one of the first books dealing with psychology and combat. I ...

Karate really for me?

Everyday I run back into this virtual room to look for Sleepmed.md. And everyday I see people chatting though I don't know if it is to sleepmed, other students with frusterations or each other. I wonder if we will ever hear from sleepmed.md again?

Attacked in a Parking Lot

Sei Otoshi is a shoulder throw while dropping to a prone position. You have to use your instep to keep your knees from banding the ground.

Dana I pinched myself while tightening my muscles under my arm between the biscept and tricept and found it relieved pressure when I took the tension out of my ...

Women as Martial Arts Instructors

An observation I have is that there is a great deal of segregation in the martial arts based on gender and age. Woman and children have been known to congregate at schools that yall refer to as mcdojos, woman go to tae bo, and woman tend to frequent schools where the regiment is not a physical and ...

Attacked in a Parking Lot

Dana,

Sorry, lost again. I know you are pinching the guy but where. Being 5 foot 4 and having studied judo for 4 years how could you possibly resist the urge to nail the attacker with sei-otoshi while in the dojo?

Don't knock success. If you set the choke up, and than applied it and it worked than it was the perfect technique for that moment. The fact that you had options in your conflict other than punching the kids lights out shows that your martial arts training has given you a return on your ...

Dana and Becky I am sorry that that happened to you. I had a woman aikido instructor for three years and saw that on occasion. The school was a t.k.d. run by a man and an aikido school run by a woman. It was a noncommercial school so there was no money to be lost or gained and she use to just let it ...

Attacked in a Parking Lot

Dana,

I somehow read over the part where you said that his left arm was choking. If that is the case everything would work in the opposite direction and I am now wondering that I have read the senerio again if she could slam the cardoor into his shinbone from the angle?

As far as the chokehold ...

Lots of stuff on technical applications, but what is that will motivate a woman to fight back against someone who is bigger, faster and stronger? Is there an issue of woman feeling helpless and thus compling and if so, how have yall overcome that obsticle in training?

A test? I will take a stab at this (sorry about the pun). I hope it is ok that I assume for this hypothical that the pointy thing is in his left hand the choke is with the right hand.

1)Don't want to go in the car. Whatever place he is going to take is going to be more isolated and more adventagous ...
