It would seem one major difference between the two given crimes, or more accurately, between the two criminals, is intent. The hit and run was an accident, if a catastrophic one. Five years of one's life is a big price to pay for a mistake you made. The guy screwed up, and was negligent. I highly ...

Did he write it because he wanted a promotion, or did he write it because he had some new knowledge or perspective of the subject that was worthy of sharing?

I dont know the answer to this question, but I wouldn't be too quick to judge.

So...i did give the specific caveat at the end of my post that I'm only speculating. you accuse me of speculation as though I had presented my opinion as anything else.

My observations are my own; of the nature of alcohol consumption in europe and every other observation made. I presented them as ...

Bill,

I'm straying from my central point here, and I'm just responding to a few of your points in the interest of continuing conversation.

As you say, laws don't stop kids from having sex, drinking, etc. And similarly, laws do not stop kids from smoking pot, meth, etc. As you say, pot is easy to ...

This is a hard argument to have rationally, because there are so many preconceptions and biases held on both sides, so I will try to be brief:

Personally I can only date strong women, otherwise I get terribly bored. If I'm spending time with someone who never disagrees with me, I might as well be talking to myself; the result would be the same.

Bill, you are absolutely right. I cant argue with what you say, but my point was not that we have wronged al queda, nor that abu grahib was responsible for Johnson's death.

My point was in response to those who suggested using their tactics against them.

like i said, i wont make any statement on ...

i'm willing to bet that western imperialism was the first action.

but that's not my point at all. I think it's silly to argue over "who started it" because who started it is not the issue, and whoever started it is dead now anyway. the issue is how is each side reacting?

Radical muslims have ...

that's a fair opinion, and i have no problem with folks getting what they have coming, but i just dont trust the government to do the job right.

the government cant even run a post office out of the red while fedex and ups do fine every year, and we trust it to figure out who deserves to die ...
