I have practiced chinese kenpo since 1995 and would not mistake it's kata for Uechi. I have been practicing Goju ryu as long and don't see the similarities to Uechi kata, I have not seen Simon performing ...

possible 4th Uechi kata Suparenpei

I have just finished viewing the tape of Mr. Glasheen doing Suparenpei. It sure looks on closer examination to have at least a few Uechi Ryu elements, and on more meticulous view to have a tremendous depth of interpretation of the hand movements of Sanchin Kata.

Any thoughts?

I'm just viewing some tapes on wing chun and it looks like a decent art Their are moves I can add to my own arsenal and i would like to learn some someday

Understanding Uechi Kata

I have a question i'd like to put to everyone on the forum.
I have studied Uechi from the early 80's, also Goju Ryu and Chinese Kenpo. I was taught that if you do the kata long enough their meaning will become clear to you.

The other day i was doing my normal kata training and right in the middle ...

Is it possible to learn the kata from the tape? Do you give the cadence ect.. Also any bunkai apllications?

Thank You for the correct reply Sensei, i worded my question wrongly.

I was just interested in the differences in training methods. Especially with regard to sanchin.My 1st Uechi teacher was very technically proficient but as ridgid as alead pipe, and not really very knowledgeable or intersted ...

can anybody enlighten me on the "old way" of uechi

I am new to the fourm. Iv'e been practicing Uechi since the early 90s. I had never heard of the old way of Uechi ryu and now the link to the uechi zankai is not working. Anyone got information they are willing to share?
