Re: Fiction Novel about Zhou Zihe

Hello Folks,

Early this morning a package of books, “Paving the Hero’s Road” by Professor Sun Chongxiong, arrived on my doorstep. These copies have the slightly fuzzy cover art, which was corrected shortly after the first printing. All copies since then have sharper-image cover art by Lu Xiangsheng ...

Searching for Information about a Teacher and Style...

Hello Everyone,

Years ago I was in a used-book shop in Yomitan and found a set of 12 manuals, each depicting a different animal style. Each book recorded the techniques and kata for separate and complete systems: tiger, dragon, crane, leopard, chicken, snake, horse, bear, etc.

These are teacher's ...

Re: Fiction Novel about Zhou Zihe

UPDATE:

"Paving the Hero's Road" is now available on Amazon at

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DTKSCL55

The front cover is undergoing review for minor corrections -- the name of the author was caught by spellcheck, and the cover image was a bit fuzzy, so these will be corrected within a few hours ...

Re: 3. The Mystery of Pan Gai Noon (B)

By the way, this typhoon was actually Typhoon #4 of the 1897 typhoon season. But it was the first to affect Taiwan with flooding and other destruction, as described in the extract.

Of the other 12 storms, none of them fit the required trajectory for a good push along their peripheral edge to ...

Published in "UechiRyu Bunburyodo Vol. 2", pgs. 36-39. I would post the weather chart but I don't know how that's done on these forums. Anyway, it's described below. The old weather chart shows the storm about midway between Okinawa and Taiwan, approaching the island of Miyako Jima and heading NW ...

Re: 3. The Mystery of Pan Gai Noon (B)

Most of the "mysteries", questions, and unfilled gaps spoken of in the above essay are addressed in my writings quite thoroughly, including the issue of Kanbun Sensei's 4 "official" birthdates. I take one as factual because it is recorded on Japanese Military records. The Japan Military Archives ...

Re: Zhou-Uechi System

Wonder if the Tiger Boxing Club of Zhitian was influenced or related in any way to the street sport in China's port cities? Tiger Boxing has been around for a long time--both Zhōuzihé/Shushiwa and Kanbun were taught tiger boxing by Zhèngxiānjì 郑仙纪 (1854-1929).

Can you define "street-sport" in ...

Re: Yoga Guru's Early Death

I believe the most severe enforcement of its regulations that an association can impose is dissociation through dismissal (in karate, “hamon”). Laws broken that result in a hamon are normally handled by the appropriate law enforcement or legal agencies. Sadly, this has happened in MA associations ...

Re: Zhou-Uechi System

The term "boxing" is not Chinese of course, but a Western term applied to whatever "Chinese" form of fighting was witnessed by foreigners. It stuck simply because it was an easier word to use, and for foreigners to understand, than fully explaining a system of fighting. Eventually, anyone Chinese ...

Sorry, I should have been more specific.

Erik, where can we readers find a listing of these standards as they apply to drug use, unhealthy dietary habits, lifestyle, and so forth? And how are these standards enforced?

Zhou-Uechi System

Mr. Zhou Zhihui, descendant of Zhou Zihe, and currently the president of the Tiger Boxing Club of Zhitian, has released a very recent video of students performing a set of drills, some of which seem to bear relationship to what I have been naming “the Zhou-Uechi System”, aka “UechiRyu”. Many of the ...

Sometimes it's just sloppy Japanese, too...

Formally, much also depends on whether the word is followed by another word, and whether the next word begins with a vowel or consonant, also whether the number is a countable or a level (nana vs. shichi, rokku vs rok, hachi vs. hak, etc.), or whether it ...
