The Gunting is a common pocket knife...its only got one edge..not even a false edge..no dirk or dagger here!
its less than three inches in blade length..( common pocket knife size for sure!)
Its not an inertia or gravity opener in any way shape or ...

Dan would know about countering..Hes made a specialty about seeing actions and countering..
Thats part of the fighting game..
look and you will see..

I know people say length of blade will make a real difference in cutting so thrusting or stabbing is better...
OK.. organs feel no pain.. stabbing ...

I know it might be a moot point..and nothjing is written in stone...but there's advantages and disadvantages to each type of attack or counter.
Cutting brings into play the tools best asset the edge..of course one needs a closeness that thrusting or stabbing doesn't need..and cutting usually does ...

A Gunt is a motion..a motion used to trap & hit something between it..
a scissoring effect..
and within the meaning is the connotation of escalation in force..
and to attack what's nearest like the limbs..
and to escalate the targets..limb to head...

Thats correct..Guro dan as wel s others can stirp knives out BECAUSE they think of it as a blade..
Certain drills encourage the grabbing of the oopnents weapon to control it..in so doing..the training,,builds the confidence to hit the opponent, the quickly grab the tool...
Because of that I do not ...

Lots of people like striking a stick like its a sword..and they say it represents a sword..
then in the context or drills or sparring, in vey next move after they cut, strike or block and opponent, they trap the opponent's stick ( pretending to be a sword) with their bare hand..lock it in place and ...

Trapping is a generic trm in many ways for eveything from light touch to JKD style in your face trapping...something Sensei ...

In Boston and a couple of other cities its now a 2.5 inch length..
So several of the new Spydercos..including my new TUSOK;( mini Gunting) will be UNDER 2.5 inches in Blade length..
The Gunting by the way is 2 7/8ths...I required the design to be UNDER Three inches..

But atually this stuff is ...

Some have asked me why blades are a certain length..do I prefer a certain length and what's a basic rule of usage..
so here goes..
the length of a blade is of course very personal..Some are too short,,just right or too long for an individuals personal tast..and theres no accounting nor changing ...

Trapping is a sensitive subject..Those of us that train in trapping seem to feel that we should be able to pull it off real time.
Those thsat don't trap will have every reason it shouldn't work or how they'll make it fail.
