Wow, this is great! Imagine, no conditioning needed, no kicks no punches... http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/wink.gif
I really don't know what to say to this, except, please remember that not all Vladimir's are the same http://www.xpres.net/~gmattson/ubbs/smile.gif and that Russian circus has ...

Uechi Championship Debriefing
As usual, I had a great time at the tournament, despite our fiasco with Dan Kumite, but as many said to me: it happens. We just didn't think it would happen to us... That's ok, we'll be back next year!
I thought the event was very well organized and run. Thanks to George sensei, Jay sensei, Bill and ...

Push Hands Videos
Hello everyone,
Check out this web site, video gallery section. Real good push hand exercises from Goju-ryu karate as well as some cool kata applications. A lot of stuff is very similar to Uechi - same origin...

Farmers vs. Samurai
Thanks Fred. I did a search on the topic and it didn't come up with anything. That's OK.
The quote that made me think was by one of the Russian "researchers of the MA" who references some of Mark Bishop's work: "Samurai vs. Farmer = SUSHI"...
He goes on to argue that there is no evidence (facts) of ...

Since the History forum has been inactive for some time, I posted this question here, hope you don't mind.
I have heard many theories on how karate evolved on Okinawa through the years of Japanese occupation and how many of the Kabudo weapons came from the farming tools. I have also recently read a ...

Chokes in Uechi-Ryu
David and Jim,
Thank you for your responses. I agree that it all depends on the imagination and creativity of the practitioner. I, personally would not rely on karate to learn an effective choking technique. I was just curious from the historical point of view.

Chokes in Uechi-Ryu
Thanks everyone. This is exactly what I was looking for. Again, I think it is the matter of personal interpretation. I am not sure if the original Sanseiryu movements described were actually intended to be the chokes, when they were designed, but I can certainly see how these can be used as ones ...

Chokes in Uechi-Ryu
Many movement applications from our katas are not as obvious at first. Even though there are arm and joint locks, we don't see them immediately when we learn the kata first. My question is this:
Are there any choking techniques "hidden" in Uechi-Ryu? I personally couldn't think of one from the top ...

Yes, Skiing!!! I love it! Fresh air, snow and speed. Just got a new pair of Rossie's, tried them out during the Christmas vacation, too bad there was no real snow. It was kind of icy. But that's the beauty of having new skis - they cut right into the ice. Felt very stable on them.

I am certainly no expert on leg locks, but I have definitely never heard of death resulting from one. Nor have I heard of paralysis, although this one can probably occur if you cut off the blood circulation or apply a pressure point technique with your lock. I have seen several breaks and tears ...

Mike,
The rules of Sport SAMBO are actually pretty similar to Olympic Judo, with few exceptions. Here is a website that outlines them all (English on the right): http://members.tripod.com/samboubc/samborules.htm
