Here is a major win for Self Defense:
Michigan Gov. Granholm Signs Legislation to Strengthen Self-Defense Rights
Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm signed legislation Thursday that supporters say is aimed at strengthening and clarifying self-defense rights in Michigan. People now will be allowed to use deadly force, with no duty to retreat, if they reasonably think they face imminent death, great bodily harm or sexual assault. They can use deadly force on their property or anywhere they have a legal right to be.

Big Jump In Muggings At Gunpoint
They have banned the private ownership of handguns in Great Britain, but it hasn`t stopped criminals from using them. The town of Barnet has seen a 68% rise in muggings by gunpoint in the past year, according to new figures released by the Metropolitan Police. Councillor Brian Coleman, Barnet`s London Assembly Member, said: "These figures not only suggest a more widespread use of guns, but that they are becoming more and more readily available.

My goodness. Could there be a move toward strengthening self defense rights in Europe?
Praising First And Second Amendments
"The reason why European authorities are becoming increasingly totalitarian in their censorship efforts is to conceal the fact that they are no longer willing or able to uphold even the most basic security of their citizenry. If their governments are no longer capable of protecting them and their freedom of speech, Europeans may have to arm themselves to do this on their own," writes Fjordman for the Brussels Journal. "Perhaps the time has come for Europeans to also take a second look at the Second Amendment."

Lincoln City Council decided to reject consideration of the mayor's proposed ban on concealed carry, so it looks like it will be a non-issue when the state law goes into effect on January 1. Of course it could always reappear another year.

Texas may lead the next wave of 'Stand Your Ground' Laws

Texas is considering giving victims more rights to defend themselves. If Texas votes for this the national trend will accellerate.
Those In Danger Should Evaluate Threat
Sometime in the coming weeks, the Texas House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee will recommend changing state law to give Texans wider latitude to use deadly force in their own defense. If the Legislature agrees, as is likely, Texas will help fuel a veritable wildfire of "stand your ground" legislation spreading through the country. Since a similar law went into effect in Florida in October, 14 other states have passed their own versions. Another 10, including Texas, are considering them.

This is a good one:
Court Shoots Down University Gun Ban
The state's highest court ruled September 8 that the University of Utah has no right to ban guns on campus, rejecting the argument that prohibiting firearms is part of the school's power to control academic affairs. Writing for the 4-1 majority, Utah Supreme Court Justice Jill Parrish said case law "is incompatible with the university's position."
This sets a great precedent for future challenges of Universities and Colleges denying students the right of self defense. Our own Va Tech was an example just a few weeks ago of why this is important.

Good news for anyone with a CHP heading to Arizona

Bill: This is of value to you:
New gun laws going on books this week
HEIDI ROWLEY,
Tucson Citizen
About a dozen new gun laws go into effect in Arizona on Thursday.
The laws were adopted by the Legislature in the past session. The
biggest change is for those who are renewing a concealed weapon
permit.
New laws eliminate the two-hour class previously required for
renewing a permit. As of Thursday, at the five-year renewal, a form
and fee will be all that is required.
In addition, Arizona will now recognize any firearm permit issued by
another state as long as the permit holder is not a resident of
Arizona and is not a prohibited possessor.
Arizona hasn't updated it's web page as of my writing this, but check
here later in the week:

First, to Bill: The Arizona law is a true CWP, not just a CHP. So with AR honoring VA's CHP, in AZ you can conceal 'weapons'.
Now, here is a great proposal in Pennsylvania:
Gun License For Domestic Violence Victims
Legislation pending in Pennsylvania seeks to provide victims of domestic violence with a temporary emergency license to carry a firearm "to make sure that they`re able to defend themselves," according to State Rep. Daryl Metcalfe, sponsor of the bill.

President Bush Sign Huge SD Bill Into Law!

This is big:
President George W. Bush recently signed legislation that included language based on H.R. 5013, the "Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act," to prohibit the confiscation of legal firearms from law-abiding citizens during states of emergency. Passage of this legislation became a top priority of NRA following confiscations of lawfully-owned firearms by local officials in New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Prior to the President's recent action, NRA led the charge in passing "emergency powers" laws in 10 states. This new law was part of the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill.

Texas students taught to fight a gunman
School officials say they learned from Columbine, attack on Amish children
The Associated Press Oct 14, 2006
BURLESON, Texas - Youngsters in a suburban Fort Worth school district are being taught not to sit there like good boys and girls if a gunman invades the classroom.
They're told to rush him and hit him with everything they got - books, pencils, legs and arms.
"Getting under desks and praying for rescue from professionals is not a recipe for success," said Robin Browne, a major in the British Army reserve and an instructor for Response Options, the company providing the training to the Burleson schools.
