Wow Rick in white! I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere..

Well, Rick's doing a standard low scoop there with a wu sao looking high guard.. The Wu Sao or protecting hand is a rear guard hand among other things in WCK and IS part of the wa-uke, though we like to keep this guard hand closer to the chin.

In general WCK does not use this kind of low scoop, because we don't like to drop the lead too low, though you might see it. In general for this kind of attack we would raise and tilt the left knee out at 45 degrees and step in while at the same time firing the lead hand at the opponent to make them flinch.. and possibly establish contact on resistance/defense, and in any case press the attack from there.. If you clash correctly with the leg, which can either kick or just jam as in the above, the idea is to place the clashing leg down directly into and under the center of the opponent <filling center space>, or kick his rear leg. <NOT RETRACT IT>

If done right your lead leg will land very close to where the opponent needs to put his foot/leg down to regain balance. But since your foot/leg is now there he will loose all balance, control and power.. At this time you enter and stop him from falling down by holding him up and hitting him.. :D

WCKF's Pak Sao is alot like Uechi's check block.. or rather serves the same or similiar purposes.

Just a simple little redirect with the palm will redirect the energy of the attacker. Gotta love it.

The series I rented was from Netflix.
They also have a Krav Maga series I have been getting.

Couple of different moves there from the Wu guard with different energy vectors..

The most common app between the systems is the sideways clearing movement that is supported by the opposite hand hit and found in the wa-uke.. This is one of the few sideways moving parries in the system and is not a proper pak, it may have a slightly different term.

The other is a pak proper, which uses forward energy from the palm in a relaxed forward slap, similar to what Rick did in NUMBER 7 of his recent video series.

The last direct application of the Wu hand is a forward chop which cuts into the attack like a knife and then presses and controls. This is the reason JKD guys place it just about on the opposite side of the head/face right near the chin.

Of course the Wu hand can convert into any other tool especially a palm strike or any other parry, cover or hit.

Michael Wong is the star and director of the tape.
It was filmed in 2004. Pretty high production values.
