I listened to the link - just now. I wanted to do so after first having seen the movie.
I may offend you, Adam. But what he says resonates with me. And what Thumper wrote seems also to resonate with me.
I disagree with your premise that the movie shows cultures as black and white. They showed the Greeks as highly flawed - just as the United States is. They showed them warts and all with their superstitions, their "eugenics" as Ian put it, etc., etc. Nothing was hidden.
Lots has been written about the Spartans. It wasn't a foo foo club for the rich to join. They were unique warriors. They were so unique that the MCMAP highlights their warrior society along with other such ancient civilizations in their outside reading material.

I think you are taking offense when you shouldn't. The classic phantom insult.
Frank Miller is right that there is a dark culture which wants to bring us all back centuries. They abhor modern civilization, and yet they use it against us. He's pretty much describing al qaeda.
Frank Miller is not trashing the entire Muslim religion.

But he makes many statements that lump together.
And was very emotional, he could barely keep himself in check.
He was not in a rational state of mind, in such a mindset people tend to clump all people together.
Plus he said ''all cultures and beleif systems are not equal''
Maybe, but there are MANY in the muslim world. So which one?
My arguement is that.....was he in a rational mindset to have his statements in a rational context?
His voice broke so much he could not continue talking.

Keep in mind through this discussion that the movie's events take place in 490 BC, before Islam began. Most of the Persians of that time followed Zoroastrianism, one of the oldest monotheistic religions in the world. There are only about 200,000 Zoroastrians today, the largest group being the Parsi of India. Even with these small descendant cultures existing today, for the movie we are talking about a culture that existed almost 2500 years ago. Connections between the Persians/Zoroastrians of that time and the Persians and/or Zoroastrians of today are tenuous at best. Different times, different cultures, different societal/political goals. Connections between the Persians/Zoroastrians of that time and Islam of today simply do not exist.
I seem to recall a similar uproar in certain Eastern European countries, particularly Hungary, over how Disney portrayed the Huns in Mulan.
By this same mindset current Italians should be upset by any unflattering portrayals of ancient Romans and current Greeks should be upset by unflattering portrayals of ancient Greeks, both of which have many times been portrayed with homosexuality. And we should all be upset by the Geico caveman ads!
Hollywood tends to be unflattering to every culture at some point or another, mostly about America but ironically that is overlooked in these discussions.
