Allen & Chuck:
Why do you wish to prevent people from 'right clicking' on your webpage?

Me? I don't really care and it is only part of "The Big Picture." The "hideme" thing is only temporary, but it gives amateur wanabe hackers a chance to roll up their shirtsleeves and work on cracking something.
It's something I found and thought I'd try out while learning JavaScript and just thought I'd throw [it] up there.
George, the reason I continually rebuild pages of my website is because I like to write code [webstuff goes into my resume], and am always finding something I'd like to incorporate. Right now, I'd like to turn my entire site into Java on the PC, and as I learn little things like this I pop-em-up on my website.
I'm currently writing a program that writes my webpages for me in my copious spare time, and that program, while executing, simultaneously writes out three different versions to three different locations. I just upload the flavor of the week that works best. The one that works best this week on my dojoLynx happened to have "hideme" code in it. Next week, that section of my website might even look entirely different without the hideme.
If one wants to really hide what's behind his data, then there is a readily available encryption routine that exists which decripts the file as it is being displayed.
Well, that was the short answer.

GEM,
My reason is this.
You put hardwork into building a site. Lots of content and some killer graphics that you took hours to make. Somebody comes by sees this and wants to "borrow" this hard work.
A simple right click and they can save the graphics or copy the highlighted text. Your hardwork just got "borrowed" and you didn't get squat for it! Not even a pat on the back on the web site where it went. They may even claim they designed it and threaten you with legal action for ripping them off. Or what is more likey to happen is people happen upon the "rogue" site and they look very simular and get confused as to where they are and you lose that person. If you have banners and what not you lose money !!
Now that script Allen wrote only stops them from right clicking and getting the popup menu. They can still do a few other things and rip you off but it requires a little more work and they may descourge them
Cheers,
Chuck

I have seen parts of my website appear on others' websites from time-to-time, and can sometimes identify my work by imbedded copyrights, etc.
I think of it as a compliment.
Part of the success of the phenomenal website explosive growth over the past 5 years is the exchange of, the sharing of, and the expansion of, fresh new ideas.
Crush them and you crush new growth.
I my write thoughts through the internet and publish HTML pages, no big deal. What I will not publish is the way I build my website, because the coding, and the methods and structures I develop along the way to generate those pages is how I make my living, therefore that part remains private and off the internet.
