I just returned from RedHat's site, and the Lunux world has grown since I was there about a year ago. Of prime concern to me is the maturity of development tools as well as drivers for the hardware.
Youse guys can shed some light on the drivers that come packaged with RedHat, if you will. Video, sound, SCSI, printer,Zip, CDW, USB, network stuff; how does RedHat fare along these lines?

Chuck,
Which news provider are you using? RR is really sucking bad these days as far as news goes. the tech guys want to fix my modem even though I can download from the web at 240kb. They just don't get it.
Allen,
I was wondering that myself. I looked for some support for my periphs at Be's site and there wasn't any.. hah hah I wondered if Linux would be the same.

Tony,
Tell me about it! My commerical back up acct is faster, and they are in Califorina not Tampa. Plus i've been talking to some PalmBay people and the "dreaded hours" are back with a passion. It's not to bad in WestMelbourne right now.

Tony,
I'm using uncensored news as a back up. They have 7 servers through out the US. The closest one to us is in Texas or Va. I find the others don't have as acomplete a feed as the Cali servers. Cost is resaonable @ $9.95 a month ONLY catch is a 250meg a day d/l limit. They do have a great retention time though.
Allen,
The RedHat 7.0 i D/L'd the other night supports USB out of the box. It found the USB keyboard and mouse. It seemed to die on the video card though(built in)and listed as a fully supported item! There is support for the SB Live! sound card. All the Adaptec 2940 and 3940 cards. I saw a couple programs for CDR's but I'm curious if they have the power and ease of use like EZCD 5.0 or Clone CD or CDrWin.
Here is the
HCL for redhat.

I made a blurb about RedHat on the "PoopyScoope" post a few minutes ago. I am dead serious about converting one of my machines over to Linux to do development work on it, but it won't happen right away. But in the meantime I'll keep my eyes and ears open for new developments.
However, I got here to tell GEM that I meant to give him an NT 4.0 CD yesterday and next time our paths close like they did yesterday, wake me up ahead of time.
George, for about two or more upgrades of Visual C++ MS threw in an operating system CD not attached to the compiler, and I'll give give you one.
<hr>
It's hard to top the commercial CD writers, and it is even a pain in the butt to do a dual boot just to write a CD. Takes longer to boot, these days then it does to write a CD. But UNIX peope are pretty smart, they'll put one up there.

StarOffice 5.2 is Free from SUN. Do not let that be the only reason to purchase the $79.95 "Professional" Edition of Redhat.
I have been using Susie and I LOVE this OS. IMHO it is better then the GUI on Redhat, but I do like Redhat as well. You can not go wrong with SUSIE or Redhat in my book.
Thanks

Jeremy,
I've heard good things about Suse Linux too.
Do they have a website with a Hardware Compat. List?
