Bill,
I'm not a comic book afficionado or anything, but as of late, the DC Comics are taking on more....mature subject matter. There are rapes of wives of major characters, sexual tension and homosexuality. But perhaps these themes were always kinda there from the beginning, but were repressed, disguised or hidden due to the Comic Book Code, the Legion of Decency and all that. Rumors abound that Batman and Robin are gay-themed. The creator of Wonder Woman is known to practice bondage and live in a polygamous relationship with his wife and other female lover. The bondage, at least, made its way to the Wonder Woman comics.
"Superman Returns" is a 2006 movie with 2006 "interpersonal relationships"? Doesn't really surprise me much. Superman is just that - a man. But I'll have to see the film to see for myself.
As a side note: The creator of Wonder Woman, William Moulton Marston also created the systolic BP lie-detector test.
Cheers,
Gene
