There is something to what Mantis is say, Justin. And I believe you have the education to play her side of the discussion.

Much has been written about this generation's inability to speak face-to-face. I agree that Facebook and texting are useful tools. But it never ceases to amaze me how "tone deaf" many teenagers are to body language, facial expressions, tone, distance, and even smell.

Dang it all, I think the horseless carriage is a pretty cool thing you know. ;) But when you end up living in suburbia and never get out even to walk a dog, well I say we have a problem. Where are the neighborhoods with sidewalks? Why do people drive for 5 minutes to find a closer parking space? What happened to the stairs? Do you ever walk to the convenience store?

Go to a place like Germany and you rarely see people in terrible shape. Why? They walk A LOT. Meanwhile.... I can't think of anything more nauseating that people-watching in a Walmart. Call me bad names if you wish; I'm probably guilty as charged. But you KNOW I am right.

That's one positive to Lincoln, lots of nice sidewalks and walkiing/running/biking trails. The whole city is literally interconnected with them, and now they have a bike trail connecting Lincoln to Omaha (although I have nowhere near the time available that trip would take). With the gentle topography this is a very walking/running/biking friendly area, resulting in lots of people doing those activities and thus interest in good trails. This weekend it got up above freezing (35 degrees today) for the first time in a long time and people were out in droves taking advantage of the "warm" weather.
