This is punishment?Gene DeMambro wrote:
But, then again, if he runs and looses, I wouldn't mind Bill singing For Boston in full Civil War dress!
BC is in the ACC - the athletic conference of my alma mater. And my great grandfather fought for The Union Army (at age 14) as an Irish immigrant. If it wasn't for the desperate needs of the North during The War Between the States, my kin would have starved. Three meals a day and a few bullets coming in your direction is a princely sum when your family looks like Ethiopian refugees.
My kin are all from the north, Gene. My dad came down to work for Langley NASA during WWII. (NACA back then.) My mom - the valedictorian of Greenwich High - followed him down.
My allegiance to TJ has to do with my alma mater and my love of libertarian ideals. It has nothing to do with "the South." And FWIW, I went to one of those Yankee prep schools - NORTH of Boston.
But you're on the right track here.

You were vociferous in your defense of the South, and especially Richmond's memorial to the Confederacy in the past. I'm thinking.....
Interesting to note that, for obvious and legitimate reasons, the developments of who and how Kennedy's seat will be filled is front page, above the fold headlines here. In the daily rundown of probable and announced candidates, Schilling wasnt' mentioned at all.
I could have you sing Hail Columbia in a John Adams costume.
I'm thinking....

We Celts don't get caught up in the Imperialistic aspirations of the Anglo Saxons, the French, and the Germans. You did note that I called it The War Between the States, right? It wasn't the concern of the Irish immigrants. We just wanted food and employment. The Irish were willing to do the dirty work that the northern residents wouldn't do.Gene DeMambro wrote:

Ever seen the movie Dances with Wolves? My great grandfather could have written that script. He followed a similar path, except of course the part about actual assimilation into a First Nation tribe. Many of the stories he told (and nobody believed) mysteriously became the plots in Death Valley Days shows.
My ancestors would have fought for The South if they had given a better offer...

Read more Jefferson. Then you'll appreciate where I'm coming from.

I can think of two decent punishments for bill.
One is to stand on the side of the freeway with a radar gun, reporting speeders to the police. Not that the police actually would care, but it's the thought that counts.
Another is to hang around outside of a hospital handing out the business cards of whatever local medical malpractice attorney advertises on television.
For Gene, I'm not sure.

Tell that to Mr. Jefferson.Gene DeMambro wrote:
Just teasing you, Bill. As long as you recognize Boston as the Hub of the Universe, you'll do!

FWIW, Virginia has produced the most US presidents.
Massachusetts is tied for 4th.Virginia, long nicknamed the "Mother of Presidents," was the birthplace of eight of our 42 presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson. There is a whimsical painting hanging in the School of Education at the University of Virginia that shows all eight Old Dominion presidents having an imaginary encounter on the porch of George Washington's home, Mount Vernon. It's definitely worth seeing if you are on the campus in Charlottesville.
It's OK though... Red Sox Nation extends to Virginia and beyond.

Well, I'm pro-gun, like good lawyers who aren't sharks, don't mind paying my taxes at all, don't mind following laws that make sense and promote good order as long as they aren't repressive, reactionary or hastily drawn and have an increasingly intense dislike for conservatives unless they shape their message quite a bit. That should point you in the right direction.
I still like the idea of dressing Bill up in a silly costume and having him sing a song from an organization he despises! Imagine the youtube video!

Sadly I won't get a chance to win this bet against Gene. Sigh...
Win or lose, I would have loved the spectacle. I think Schilling would have become the Arnold of the east.

- SI.comSchilling won't run for Kennedy's open seat in Senate
NEW YORK (AP) -- Curt Schilling won't test out just how popular he is in Massachusetts.
The former Boston Red Sox pitcher, beloved in the state for his starring role in ending an 86-year championship drought, announced Tuesday he isn't running for Edward M. Kennedy's seat in the U.S. Senate.
Earlier this month, Schilling expressed interest in pursuing the post held by the Massachusetts Democrat for almost 50 years before he died in August. But appearing on "Joe Buck Live" on HBO on Tuesday night, Schilling quashed the notion.
"Regardless of the amount of support and outreach that's been given to me, it just did not make sense," he said.
Kennedy, who was first elected to the Senate in 1962, died Aug. 25 of brain cancer at age 77. Primaries are scheduled for Dec. 8, and the general election will be Jan. 19.
The 42-year-old Schilling cemented his place in Boston sports lore with the "bloody sock." For a Red Sox team that hadn't won a world championship since 1918, he twice took the mound during the 2004 playoffs despite an ankle injury that left red seeping through the fabric.
Renowned for his big-game performances and big mouth, Schilling won three World Series titles, earning rings with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2001 and again with the Red Sox in '07. He also helped lead the Philadelphia Phillies to the 1993 World Series.
Schilling retired in March after pitching for five teams over 20 years.
Days after the Red Sox won in 2004, he went on national TV to urge everyone to vote, "and vote Bush." Schilling stumped for Republican John McCain in 2008. But he has said he also voted for Bill Clinton, a Democrat.
Schilling laid out his political beliefs on his blog, 38pitches.com, earlier this month, while insisting there was a "slim chance" he'd run.
He was still dishing out opinions Tuesday even as he announced he wouldn't pursue Kennedy's seat.
"I think the country is sick and tired of elected officials beholden to special interests," Schilling said. "I think we're at a time and a place where we're voting for the lesser of two evils instead of the best candidate."
Rep. Michael Capuano, Attorney General Martha Coakley and Boston Celtics co-owner Stephen Pagliuca have announced they're seeking the Democratic nomination in Massachusetts.
State Sen. Scott Brown and Canton Selectman Bob Burr are seeking the Republican nomination.
Schilling would have had to run as an independent.
Gov. Deval Patrick could announce a temporary replacement for Kennedy as soon as Thursday.
