Here is a drill that will help you power those close body shots. It works up the body and finishes at the head. Working both hands with this drill will enable you to get real comfortable in any position you find yourself in.

Take a look at the steering wheel hand position that I use when striking. Both hands working together on impact. This hand and arm set up will deflect lots of funny things when your working real close. Everything comes off this 10 and 2 position. All blocks - all closing moves - all strikes come from this steering wheel position. This hand position just happens to be how you move in your kata. A very powerful set up for anything coming your way.

Here is a good look at striking close quarter from the steering wheel hand position. I really like firing the open hand from the 10 and 2 hand set up. With your hands in this set up you are able to do many things. You can grab and strike from here very fast. You can stop strikes coming at your head from here. Everything is coming from the steering wheel set up. Get comfortable here. Makes things a lot better when working real tight.
