I use AOL FTP space quite a bit (Besides my Earthlink account) I only use AOL for space and some mail. I have the bring your own ISP.

Here is the easiest way, for me, to upload and control your files on AOL's web space. Assuming you are using version 5.0 this is how to get there.

First, create your web pages and save them to a specific directory. Use Netscape or IE to test them from your hard drive using the FILE/OPEN menu.

To get to your FTP:
At the top menu bar go
INTERNET
FTP (file transfer)
GO TO FTP (button to the right of the menu)
scroll to you find MEMBERS.AOL.COM (double click it)
click OK button
You will then have reached your FTP area. When you get to this spot, click on the heart in the upper right hand corner of this window and save as a Favorite Place so you can easily get back here. Buttons on the bottom show you where to click to upload. Remember when uploading that all htm/html files are TEXT files and pictures, wavs, etc.. are BINARY files.


Each screen name you have is allocated 2MB so if you have all seven names AOL lets you have, you have 14 megs of space. Unfortunatly only 2 in each FTP spot.

Anybody know how ro post pictures on an AOL home page made with 1-2-3 publish, the cheesy little page program that comes with AOL?

I've gotten past the upload to my ftp space, and typed in the <tag> as shown on the help screen, but nothing.

Is there a way to upload a page made with front Page express that makes this task easier?

I can't believe this is that difficult.

Can you use ws_ftp with AOL? I never tried it. I do use it with Earthlink though and it works fantastic.

If you ever need a bottomless pit for video clips. I'd suggest xoom.com
they allow http access which can permit directory browseing. As long as you refernce the clip out I belive you can avoid the xoom bar at the top of the screen. Just an idea

Is XOOM http referenced if you have their website? I signed up for their 500 meg storage on their sharehouse thing but the files are coded to be accessed with an ID name tag and the link sends you to the place to dl. And... the person has to be a member in order to dl the file.

The other service they have gives you 20 megs. Not bad. But I don't want a zoom bar. Maybe I can use it just to have the files accessed without putting any html on their server. Just clips.
