I would like for some one to track this down. I started in a style that used white, brown, black but kyus were always used. Nakazato of Shorin Ryu claimed he could easily kill with a front kick. Yamaguchi Gogen thought the elbow was for this purpose. I think it is the move that you favor and work the most with(given certain parameters)

If ones goes back far enough in Japanese martil arts history the founder trained ith a mountain mystic or a mountain demon. The old way of naming a dojo or a place was the same as naming a style. It was really only in this century that the name gamers have jumped in.

other teachers. I look for good folks but they are folks who help flesh out the base system that i was bought up with.

However, look at many items kanbun uechi studied how long under his instructor 10 years. there doesnt seem to be any record of his studing with anyone else. The Okinawan tradition is full of similar stories. At some point one must make the art his/her own.

If one goes back and checks the histories of many of the old masters, they trained for maybe 10-20 years with a teacher and then went on their own. Their improvement was a function of their continual training and working hard. At some point it falls to the person to work hard to improve their own ...

All I have known Bill for long time(from his Shorin Ken days) and can tell you there isnt a deeper thinker about budo. He examines the art from the mat and the book. bunburyodo fits him to a tee. back to lurking
