It's not about equality

Ok, since I noticed many people saying they wished they heard more responses from women I thought I'd write my 2 cents.

I'm female and a teenager. I just started training so I don't have a lot of experience to speak from. What I have noticed though is not what was described above. I've never been ...

It's not about equality

"Kate - you are a very welcome addition to the dojo" -
Thanks for giving me the opportunity. I love (pretty much) every second I spend there. But I want to especially thank you for just making me feel welcome. Maybe one of these days I'll be able to drag Melissa out to a class, but don't hold your ...

dominant arm?

I've noticed lately as I've been doing warm-up and other exercises that I really do have a dominant arm. For example, I'm right handed and it just seems I do a lot better with my right arm. When I punch with my left arm I feel I lose a little more control and power. I can't seem to get it as on ...

A Big Hearty Congratulations to our Own...

Definitely an amazing performance by Tony. I can say that I was privileged enough to be able to attend and actually see the test.
I can say as a white belt (yellow now though) that if you don't walk away from seeing that without being moved to perform at higher levels in your own training than ...

Sanchin Question

Although I am a very beginning beginner, I thought I might as well contribute even though I am just starting. But, I was taught to tighten from the bottom up. For example feet to legs to hips to stomach etc. I try and tighten my calves, then thighs, then just keep going up.
That's what I learned ...

bowing in kata

Well for me, I'm going to a tournament. I know at the beggining before you start your kata you bow and say the name of it. I guess you face the judges or something. But do you look at them or do you put your head down?

bowing in kata

When bowing at the beginning of a kata, do you lower your eyes and look down since there is no opponent? Or, like in sparring, do you bow but still have your head up enough to see what's going on?
Just wondering!

A measured response

As a student, my point of view is this: Do encourage the child to stand up for himself now, before it's too late.
By the time he gets to High School (where I am now) things are just going to be incredibly worse. I see kids every day who are repeatedly tormented. For nothing other than sitting ...

white belts

Is camp for all skill levels? Could I as a white belt still attend and make it still worth the amount of the trip?
Any info would be great!
