but having said that

"Britain And America are secretly preparing to withdraw most of their troops from Iraq - despite warnings of the grave consequences for the region, The Mail on Sunday has learned.
A secret paper written by Defence Secretary John Reid for Tony Blair reveals that many of the 8,500 British troops in Iraq are set to be brought home within three months, with most of the rest returning six months later.
The leaked document, marked Secret: UK Eyes Only, appears to fly in the face of Mr Blair and President Bush's pledges that Allied forces will not quit until Iraq's own forces are strong enough to take control of security."

You continue to convince me that you think with your heart, and not with your head. Secret plan to withdraw troops? Blair? GW???
That's about as funny as the French invading us. Come on, jorvik, do YOU even believe these sources you are quoting here?
Well, my friend, at least you and Laird keep me amused.
Say hi to Winnie and Tigger for me.
You're going to need a better metaphor for me. The ostrich isn't very hawkish, is it now? Makes for some good eating though...
Got a good preparation suggestion, Tony?
And after I enjoy Tony's ostrich dish, we'll get him working on some crow for one or the other of us to feast on.

What kind of wagers shall we consider 3 and 9 months from now? We have lots of witnesses here. I love a good gentleman's bet.A secret paper written by Defence Secretary John Reid for Tony Blair reveals that many of the 8,500 British troops in Iraq are set to be brought home within three months, with most of the rest returning six months later.

Tony, your source mentions that all civilian buildings would be destroyed / doesn't address environmental and longterm heatlh concerns (just because you can enter an area doesn't make it safe; the fallout from chernobyl killed >100k). More to the point, it would be tacky and unecessary. Are you really saying that most of our nukes are no longer designed to work by blasting the heck out of things?
I feel a need to speak up for the French. Not France. A lot of people who hate America have a nuanced enough view to understand that AmericaNS are a varied bunch and don't necessarily support everything our nation does that offends them. This is something that even the supposed, monolithic block of fanatic psychos in the mideast can accomplish, so I know we can do it. The FRENCH are a varied mix of USA supporters and detractors, hawks and doves, and at least a handful do Uechi or at least some Savat, and that makes them cool. Sure, some took bribes from Saddam, but its not as if the US government is pure. Our politicians are elected by bribe cash and beholden to the big money interests that bought them, in large part. If France were at war with the energy and military industrial or insurance or legal organizations, we'd be in the same position.

They come from darkness and to darkness they shall sent
Remember What Winston Said
The cowards attack from hiding,
the civilized and innocent to hurt.
Their faces hidden, shadowed smirks
while we view the results, so grim.
But they shall not triumph over good people
brave and true as Churchil said,
"We Shall Never Surrender Unto the Likes of you."

I'm cool with France, Ian. Pick a political point of view opposite to what they choose, and there's a safe bet you've made a wise choice. What's not to like about that?
"The French are ... not dressed any better, on average, than the citizens of Baltimore. True, you can sit outside in Paris and drink little cups of coffee, but why this is more stylish than sitting inside and drinking large glasses of whiskey I don't know." -- P.J O'Rourke (1989)
If it weren't for the French, Ian, we couldn't be so easily politically incorrect.

Ian, your not reading it right or your seeing what you want too see or something.. Neutron Bombs are low yeild/air burst weapons. They are detonated above a target. Yes, there is some destruction, probably 100 yards radius is leveled. It is after all.. a 1kt warhead, thats a powerful explosion. Because they are airburst, fallout is nill. The Doomsday bombs which you are thinking about are pretty much dismantled now, im sure their are some but there is no longer a need for weapons like that. Do you know what it takes to maintain one of those things? Uncle Sam says "Good riddance"! But tactical nukes are still around... like the Davy Crockett, which is about 1/2Kt nuke that can be fired like a mortar, inserted into a mine, or even fired out of a 155mm howitzer. it's also an airburst weapon but has a wicked fireball which can generate windspeeds of up too 800mph at ground zero for 1/4 mile or so. You see, thats where the nukes power is, it's the windspeeds as the fireball literally ***** the air from all directions into it... which is also where you get your mushroom cloud.
