Chinese Boxing...

Beneficial or overrated? How can the TMA improve by exploring and being aware of other fighting methods?

Chinese Boxing...

Post by JimHawkins »

More video fun, this time with some WCK 'Boxing' vs. Brand X KB.

Note the use of the standard WCK front kick (Is it a snap or thrust?) :) to intercept leg attacks; most of the stuff shown is basic, simple and direct.

In the first vid it's interesting to note what happens when the WCK guy tries a low round kick about half way through. This is not normally used in plain vanilla WCK, and this shows pretty clearly why not.

Jim,

these are good videos. There is some really good sparring there. I see your point. The taller fellow almost fell prey to a really nice spinning back fist. That could have knocked him out cold.

Thanks Tony,

Right, his CCW rotational torque wacked his ability to defend his right flank, just one of those things we try to avoid.. :)

The shorter guy had good kicks too! He got knocked over a few times and was afraid to use them after that. I'll bet if he worked on his speed, he could eventually tag that taller guys dome. Of course, he'll have to endure much ass-whoopin' in the meantime, hah hah!

Great videos, those guys know how to practice!

Ip was a prankster with a great sense of humor from what I hear, like my sifu.. They would have ran with that one, perhaps adding, “Can you afford to pay the Grand Master Troll's toll?”

Always fun to see this stuff for me.. I always keep my eye out for actual WCK sparring/fighting. There are challenge matches that go on, would love to find some of those.

These vids are of Leung Ting Wing Tsun. They emphasize exact use of the second form stances and footwork as this guy did.

I'm hoping that my student is going to get is butt back in the Ring to start putting this stuff to good use.. :) If that happens I'll be sure to get it on video and post it here.. :D

Can any one say "conservation of energy"

I love it!

See the way the WC guy would just wait for the attack and then he'd attack while the other guy wasted so much energy dancing.

Also notice the stance.. much like the aikido hamni stance eh Jorvik?

One of the keys is to attack when the moment is right and not when you want to, attacking a good fighter when you feel like it instead of when the time is right will often get you KO'd.

Like a tracking viper; Eager to strike, yet unhurried and calm; Like nothing special.
