Problem is, Tony, if you lump all of "them" together, you accidentally:

--miss a bunch of non-islamic appearing muslims, like the one in the anecdote above
--lump in a bunch of islamic friendlies
--miss the plain ole home grown white islamic sympathizers
--miss the plain ole home grown white non islamic mcveigh type terrorists
--accidentally go after a bunch of Mexicans etc Who do you think plays over the top terrorist roles on TV if someone from the middle east refuses?

In the meantime, you're kind of endorsing OBL's plan. When Bush declared a WAR and better yet a crusade, there was this huge YEEEEEEHA from the caves near the pakistani border. Most christians and muslims were getting along, and OBL wanted to make his prehistoric pyschotic repressive worldview relevant again. So he set out to paint the world as a struggle between the west and islam. If the westerners buy it and go after the WHOLE islamic community, then he wins. He gets his worldwide struggle and islamic unity and since no side is going to eradicate the other, a smoldering, idiotic, hundred year war. On the other hand, our intelligence and weapons are set up for the most discrete, surgical, clean counterattack in history. And if we go for the hammer instead, we buy ourselves more trouble.

Thats not a problem for me Ian because it keeps me on my toes and hopefully prevents me from being blindsided. Call me a simpleton, racist, paranoid.. whatever, at the critical moment when you realize that the guy next to you is a walking time bomb, i'll already have been gone because I saw it faster then you did. As far as not being fair to the kind loving muslims, I don't care. I'm not much of a "people" person anyway. My donations for the katrina disaster went to help the abandonded pets.

Oh yes, there is racism in the arab community, any pakistani who goes to hajj in saudi arabia will be revelled with racist comments about brown people and how east asian muslims are ''inferior muslims''

But there is something ive heard alot of arabs repeat in more or less the same words: To keep the iraqi arabs civil, you need not one, but 10 dictators, and even then they will be barbaric. Afganistan, needs 10 talibans to hold them down, and even then they will be barbaric.

Now they themselves are being racist, but it should tell you something about the culture these people live in.

Why is there not jewish extremism against the west, why not christian extremists?

Tony, if you were in afganistan or iraq, then you have to understand that afganistan is a third world country. That has gone through three different wars fought in thier own country. Even when not going through a war, afganistan has always been in a state of chaos and disorder. Many afgans have been conditioned to have a 'hate everyone who looks at you wrong'.
When was were bombs last dropped in the states? Have you ever been in danger of starving to death? Have you ever NOT been able to complain?
Have war lords ever raped your daughter?

You are without a doubt, probably a tough guy. But from what i can tell, you eat a good meal everyday, which gives you protien for your muscles and have a home to rest in. Most of your friends will probably die of old age.
Do you think you would be as jolly as you are now if you were starving or homeless? Would you be even spending tmie typing on a computer? Wouldnt you be looking for someone to blame as well?

And were these peole living a good life and just suddenly decided ''Hey, i dont like these white american guys. Lets hate them."

No doubt many of those people have it tough. Not the Saudi's though, they have phillipino slaves to do all their work. But you know, thats not my problem, my problem is to work, go to school, and put food on my table. Dealing with other countries problems is my governments problem. As far as i'm concerned, Arabs have declared war on me, my way of life, and those I love, now that is MY PROBLEM and I have taken that threat seriously. So now I watch them ALL with a critical eye, including you. If you are up to something, i will know, and i'll be the first to nark you out. You say, "well thats not me..." well, if the shoe fits... but if it doesn't, whats your problem?

If you want my trust, you'll have to earn it man... you don't get it by default from me, like you do the rest of these morons.

I just want to caution you all to keep this on an intellectual level. Otherwise the management will tell me to pass it on to Panther.

I realize there is some pretty serious soul-bearing going on here, and it bothers some. I'm not sure we can change minds here. But we can enlighten folks to what people think and why they think it. And we can try to understand the consequences of specific and nonspecific responses to external threats.

If we can keep this off the personal level, we'll leave it here. If it gets too personal, I'll pass it on.
