Gary Lam Vids
The impressive thing to me, anyway, is the great hand speed, and ability to 'effortlessly' intercept and neutralize the opponent's attacks while taking control at the same time.
Another such impression left on me was from Ed Parker, at the Chicago first world karate championships.
His hands were like greased lightning, and he did 'center line' every strike.

Thanks for checking out the clips
Hey guys just stumbled on to this thread , i'm one of the guys in the PO PAI clips ''Ernie''
there hosted on my site
just wanted to say thanks for the cool words about the clips and my Sifu ,
as for the remarks on being stiff , to some degree there true , the guy i'm working with does put allot of emotional tension and commitment into things something he is working on .
as for the TC being able to catch the powerline , i have tossed many a TC guy around , there is a dual pulse in our push not a single direct shove , the first pulse sets up an echo or reaction from the guy he will sink , bend , twist , spit , swallow what ever terms you want to call it , you catch his C.O.G. as he counters the first pusle and cut into his changing position
we use different timings in the pulse and counter , but Sifu only wanted to show the first 2 basic steps , push and mid motion counter
but really it's just a small training method to develop position for punching with power instead of the played out WC blast of empty love taps
well i don't do forums as much as i used to but feel free to ask me any questions any time ,
peace and be well

Good to hear! Take care of that arm!
I'm hanging in there....like your tendon..
Nice to see you here and this is a nice civilized board compared to the other one(s).
Lots of good folks here just trying to learn and improve themselves..!

Not a problem Ernie you are a gentleman..
I'm sure Rick will say hello later as well as some of the other regs here..
When I have time later I'll shoot you a PM.

Gary , ya he is just a real cool soul , it's why i have a hard time calling him Sifu , we have become good friends and to me that is way more meaningfulThe Bronze Dago wrote:I really like this Gary Lam fella...
He seems really tolerant and laid back..

don't get me wrong the man is all about fighting and cutting through the BS
but more than that he enjoys his life , really fun cat to be around
Jim , pins and needles baby

Funny thing is that was the very first time Peter and myself ever did that drill !The Bronze Dago wrote:I like that kicking drill you guys are doing with the shin and knee guards. A friend of mine showed me how to stop kicks with something similar to that once.
You gotta practice it alot though... hard technique to master!
i have a back ground in Savate ,Thai and Filipino kicking methods ,[ back in my younger bionic man of steel days

but i use stick and knife sparring with shin gaurds quite often to maintain my timing and footwork
I do allot of ''out of the box '' training methods to liven up the WC skill set
but this is my path , I know not really for everyone

but if you slip a full speed kali stick wizzing at you insert your kick with enough ''pow'' to shell shock the dude and not get hit in the process , you got some nice timing
