What comforts you? What stresses you?

Guess I'm stuck with being a creampuff Vicki.
Comforts for me are going to sleep with my wife and waking up with my wife. I'd also say just waking up is comforting too.
Listening to my sons talking & laughing about their day before they fall asleep.
My weekly Sunday drive in the country.
Watching my oldest son do just about anything.
Playing catch in the evening with my youngest.
Having my parents and kids together.

1. my four favorite food groups, in order:
ice cream
brownies
pizza
cake
chocolate fits under medication as it stimulates the production of seratonin. But, I can't decide if hostess cup cakes (a definate weekness of mine) fit under cake or chocolate.
2. Riding my horse on a warm day.
3. feeling my rifle settled in my shoulder as I slowly and methodically zero in on my target.
4. I'm sure some of U were expecting this from me....
KATA
5. cycling across long winding country rodes. I'd like to go back to Europe and cycle there again. Sometimes I miss being a soldier.
6. sitting under a great oak tree off in the lonely woods.
7. sitting by the shore listening to the waves crash against rock and sand.
8. creatively writing something that hopefully others will enjoy.
I miss my dog.

- the smell and warmth of my wood stove after shoveling the driveway or a long winter walk
- the smell and warmth of a camp fire on a cold autumn day
- lots and lots of trees; be it camping, hiking, or driving.
- the "feel" of an area like where I grew up: rolling fields, crops, woods, open space.
- an unblemished clear night sky; no light pollution (man made or otherwise). many don't and will never realize just how beautiful a site this is.
- my two golden retrievers; no matter how hard a day I may be having, they remind me to just let go of whatever is bothering me and enjoy life; as they say, ignorance is bliss and I envy them for their worry free lives.
- my wife; her perspective helps center me
- regular workouts at the dojo; these also help center me and I can thank me wife for encouraging me to start going again after a long hiatus.
- sunday mornings; its quiet all over the neigborhood and time seems to slow down
- throwing together a special meal for friends and family; the longer the recipe the better.
- the sound of water; be it a babbling brook, rainfall on the roof, or waves on the beach.
cheers,
chewy

You are right, Chewy. There is something so mesmerizing about water. It calms the soul. I am looking for an indoor Japanese water fountain or some sort to hear water....I just hope my cat stays out of it.
I love lush plants in my home. It is like bringing nature indoors, plus it cleans the air.
I absolutely love the smell of home-made bread or apple pie cooking. This brings back memories to going to my grandmother's home. She cooked biscuits every day for my grandfather....I have a special weakness for really good biscuits.
Comraderie with friends is a wonderful relaxer. I love having friends over and cooking for them. My mom used to have her sisters and their families over for big fish fries or fried chicken dinners.
Another relaxing past time is to stay visiting with friends and then go have breakfast at 2 AM somewhere (usually some really good, greasy place like Waffle House).
Food and friends, you can't beat that for relaxing (unless you have a hot tub like Van's buddies).

Stress vs Distress
On the flip side of that, what stresses you?
There is stress and then there's distress. Stress can be good like a new baby or a marriage or it can be bad: distress. How do you deal with either?

Food nor chocolate has never done a damn thing for me, so it seems so foreign when people mention that. If I could never eat again in my life, I'd take that pill in a second. What makes me feel good when I feel awful is women, which forces a bit of a crazy lifestyle.
I do agree nothing get's the anger out like a good sparring match and landing that perfect kick to his nose with that satisfying whip of the neck, but goodness.... women......
Now you know why I'm a TSD guy eh? Sparring and hot girls, TSD has 'em both!

And ironically what stresses me is women.chef wrote:On the flip side of that, what stresses you?

Stress
My job stresses me at times. But I am at work right now so I can't complain too much.
Driving in congested traffic stresses me.
Stupid people in important job roles stress me.
Lack of sleep stresses me.

I find that lumps in my breast stress me out....scary stuff!
Any teenage boy touching my teenage daughter stresses me out and makes me want to work out that stress with a good couple of minutes of sparring
.....with that teenage boy who touches my daughter.
Grrrrrrrr!!!!

Now I create my own stresses. Our choice really isn`t it?

I've said it before, I'll say it again, and I'll say it to your daughter's face.
She can do better!!!!
Get her in a good school next year where she'll meet some guys her equal. Before long, she'll be hitting herself upside the head and saying "What was I thinking?"
As for meeting parents, what always amazed me was that my dates were more afraid of their parents meeting me than I was of meeting them. I was insulted if she didn't allow me time to talk to them, and it sent a BIG message to me. Think about that, parents.
