Foul

Post by Guest »

Hey Van,

You are like the football referee jumping in and calling foul on the wrong player. :D
John,

‘Elite’ is a bad word because it conjures up superiority_ like our Uechi is better than all your Uechi combined out there.
Marcus used the word. I did not. "Scold" the Scot.
My experiences have probably not been elite .
That's his characterization of my experience. Not mine

Marcus is probably like a slugging 1st baseman or right fielder. I'm the mediocre utility infielder who rode the pines for years and ends up coaching or managing because I've been a student of the game.

May you awaken to the mystery of being here and enter
the quiet immensity of your own presence.
May you have joy and peace in the temple of your senses.
May you receive great encouragement when new frontiers beckon.
May you respond to the call of your gifts and find the
courage to follow its path.
May the flame of anger free you from falsity.
May warmth of heart keep your presence aflame and may
anxiety never linger about you.
May your outer dignity mirror an inner dignity of soul.
May you take time to celebrate the quiet miracles
that seek no attention.
May you be consoled in the secret sympathy of your soul.
May you experience each day as a sacred gift woven
around the heart of wonder.

NOVA SCOTIA TO THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS

The first home grown Scottish Uechi-ryu students to achieve Dan grades from Gary Geddes (left), are
Alan Henderson and Angus Henderson, with the IUKF Scotland representative Terry Donoghue

In an excellent example of the international spirit of the IUKF, the Highland dojo recently welcomed the visit of Gary Geddes from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to our group based in Dingwall, Scotland. Having originally met up with Gary at Summer camp some 11 years ago, I was pleased to be able to offer him the opportunity to see his ancestral home after visiting and working out with him previously in Nova Scotia.

In search of an external assessor of the quality of my two candidates for Shodan, I approached Gary after discussing the matter with George Mattson at last year's WinterFest. The Dan test went well on September 1ST, (with me probably more relived than those being tested) and the two successful candidates were very pleased to have measured up to an international standard. Our group felt lucky to have the chance to train with someone who, bringing with him a different thread of influences relating to kata interpretation, acted as a wonderful ambassador for the IUKF by making the trip without payment while enacting the attitude of co-operation.

For me, it was good for Gary and I to be able to have the opportunity to demonstrate our ideas on body mechanics which otherwise can only be shared through our regular telephone conversations.

Cost of Lessons

Post by Guest »

For about 5 years I was a Dancer's Daddy. I was divorced and my teenage daughter took Highland dancing lessons. I took her everywhere to perform.
Everyweek end in season, late winter and spring here in Florida it was a trip to a different Highland game contest.

Kilts ... The family Colquhoun tartan and a formal Stewart for dancing. Special Gillies, hose, flashes. Velvet jackets, blouses, more blouses. A Hornpipe outfit. An Irish Washer Women's Outfit. White linen gowns for the National Dances and folk dresses. Man, I was reeling with the Reel of Tulloch and bleeding from Agryl Broadswords.

Don't tell me about expensive karate lessons. :!: Oh yea, I forgot the weekly dancing lessons every Saturday morning throughout the year. :P

It could have been worse ... I could have had a son who played hockey and wanted to be a goalie  Thank god! He went for karate ... the economical art.
