Putting myself out there

Post by cdoucet »

was just fooling around with my camera. thought I would put this out here.

I haven't gone to any classes regulary for a year or so. Most of its on my own, and I was taking a little 2 month break.

theres a couple of things that I screwed up on or noticed.
1) opening thursts my stance appears a little long.
2) 3rd double strike forgot to 'break the stick'
3) not really happy with the posture but I'm slowly correcting it

cheers

probably need the latest divx codec to see this.

enjoy!

Very nice...

Keep practicing.

Being a stickler on basics, I would just suggest slowing down your movements a bit and trying to be more aware of posture, balance and technique.

As an example... the "check block" position... where you place the hand/arm during the circle blocks.

Good strong moves overall though. Thanks for posting. (And I hope you don't object to my comments)

I don't mind at all, its part of the reason I am posting it here to get feed back.

Thats I guess one of my draw backs is that I like to 'speed' things up..

I'm always going back to the basics. :D.

Not sure why, but I can't get this. All I get is 'screen saver' colorful display....looking like something out of an wild acid trip....very strange!

Wish I could see it.

I have a question...

Post by NEB »

I noticed cdoucet's doing the Sanchin kata by turning the shoulders (and hips). I've seen this a few times before, and was wondering if someone could shed some light on this version of Sanchin.

Very good kata. I like the emphasis on the hip and lower body. Most of the Okikukai teachers (Walter Mattson, Master Takara, Master Nakamatsu and others) teach it that way. The idea here is that the lower body is where the strength is and this leads to a more powerful strike. I like to see the non striking hand stationary during the strike to work on the block/hard hand and a slower. more deliberate step.

Not sure of your rank or time in the study, but I'd say an excellent understanding of how to use the hips.

Kudos to you for "putting yourself out there."

I did the same (in all my IMperfection) just to take the plunge and share what I'm working on. (I posted my Seisan on MySpace.)

It's like singing in public, and it's soul-baring in a way, isn't it?
Nice if we all would!

I'll take a look when I get to work (high-speed).

I'm not sure what you mean by this. during the wauke? (sp?) I'm curious to understand what you mean?

I currently hold green belt or gokyu.
My Senseis where Gilbert Macintyre and Danny Macdougall of Sydney, Nova scotia If anyone was interested.

In no means am I a big lad, weight usually fluxuates between 140-150 lbs. So speed and proper body mechanics is something I need to put alot of emphsis on as I just don't have the muscle mass to hold my own in pure strength. Rick Wilson writes some very nice articles which gave me alot to think about and consider for someone of my size.

I officially hold a green belt or gokyu rank. I've pretty much haven't had a formal instructure for just over a year now.

During the strike the stationary hand should be still i.e. not drifting toward the centerline.

Exceptional for agreen belt level.

Josann.,

hmm played with this a little just now.

I think I see what you mean. When I pull the striking arm back and 'cock the hips' it moved the blocking hand inwards. which kind of exposes those ribs on that side. If I don't let it 'draw in' with the cocking of the hips then it stays out there to protect those rips.

Good eye.

*bows humbly* thank you.

I liked it , very cool .

If playing with maintaining the forward hand I`d suggest concentrating on projecting the forward hand on the draw . It helps create load and structure and aid in opening what Rick would call the upper Qua (well I would too ;) )

my 2 cents for what it`s worth , thanks for sharing !!!
