Twenty Year Dojo

Post by Norm Abrahamson »

Congratulations to Sensei Michael Murphy, who celebrated his 20th year as Sensei of Uechi Ryu America Karate School in Randolph. Last night was celebrated by visits from scores of current and former students who came up to the school to reminisce, eat pizza, and look through old photo albums. The early albums show some of the same instructors, but with more hair and less weight. It was a fun evening of fellowship; perhaps the most beneficial result of a life in the martial arts.

Sincerely,

I wish to give a very special congratulations to Sensei Michael Murphy on celebrating his 20 year anniversary of his dojo - Uechi Ryu America.

Sensei Murphy, is one of the hardest working and most dedicated sensei’s I know. I am very proud to know sensei Murphy.

On behalf of my entire family. I wish Mike sensei another 50 plus years, in addition to health and happiness.

Respect & Honor.

Hi Mike...

Best to you and your hard working students. They truly make your school one of the best dojo in the world.

20 years is a long time. Most of us "long timers" have experience bouts of "burnout" and many never make it to 20 years. It is tribute to your dedication that has kept you in front of the class all these years and your teaching genius that has kept your classes full.

Many more years to look forward to. I promise to be at your 50th Anniversary ceremony and will toast you with a Johnny Walker Blue! :)

My very best to you, Mike. I know how much work you have done blending Uechi Ryu and Japanese Jiujitsu. You have a unique offering, and you've done much to expose us all to the ju in our Uechi.

Keep it up, and keep the faith.

Everyone,

I have been pretty busy lately and haven't checked on to the site in any depth recently. I want to thank all of you for your congratulations on my 20th year teaching. As all of you know, it's a long road, but one that sneaks up on you. I can't believe I've kept a business running for twenty years!
I will tell you the secret to my longevity though, it's the people whom I have had the pleasure to teach, to meet, work out with, and learn under that has kept me going. It's all of you and the thousands whom I have interacted with over 34 years in the arts. So, thank you again for helping me get there, and if I get to 50 sensei, I'll bring you up for that drink!

yours in budo,

mike
