Has anyone spent time looking at the Kung Fu video clips? I was wondering if anyone else found the posturing in the fight scenes to be anachronistically tedious.

I can understand why Carradine got bored with it all and moved on. This way he avoided his "jump the shark" moment.

The fight scenes were influenced big time by the FCC. There was only a certain amount of violence allowed. By slowing it down in spots it got through. The best part of the show was the fights, although then through uneducated eyes.

The entire first season only had Judo techniques, later on a Kung-fu expert was hired. Kam Yuen if I recall correctly.

He now seems to focus on Chinese Medicine.

Somewhere buried in my library I have a book by Kam Yuen on three section staff. In it is an impossibly and impractically gymnastic form that I spent a little time trying to learn before I decided it was a waste of my time. It was less martial study and more Wushu - not quite my thing.

I did have a terminally cute girl in one of my UVa karate classes who used to twirl baton in high school band. I was able to teach her most of the moves in Kam Yuen's book. Go figure... I don't know if she could have ever defended herself, but she sure looked good twirling that staff. 8)

He fights in some of the fight sequences during Kung Fu.

It appears from that website he is more into medicine now, not the first martial arts teacher I've heard of doing that. Must be more money in Holistic medicine.

I used to think he looked slightly asian at times...

EDIT:

Actually I realized, it wasn't so much his features but his state of mind, how he carried himself--softly in a loud world. He was at one with the Tao (priest)--that, made him very 'different' in stark contrast to others, especially the old West's greedy capitalists we meet in the show.

I loved that show though and I thought some of the choreography was cool too.. Of course, the show wasn't about the moves...

Your " ... I cannot stress this enough, people... if you're going to dabble in erotic autoasphyxiation... well, don't--but if you do, you must, must, must have a spotter. " is a warning that should be extended to the majority of American voters ... there is still chance to not lapse into freedom asphyxia by voting in the next elections to rid us of the neo-Marxists. :) :)
