When Jimmy Carter was inaugurated, we watched it in class. When Ronald Reagan was shot, we all sent cards to him in the hospital. And the big deal is....what? Does the right fear some sort of cult of personality, aka Kim Jong Il in North Korea? News flash: Not going to happen.

Did you sing a retarded song about what a great guy he was, to the adoration of your teachers?
When Ronald Reagan was shot, we all sent cards to him in the hospital.
Did you include in the cards messages about how you wanted to help destroy the Soviet Union, and get Star Wars up and running?
And the big deal is....what? Does the right fear some sort of cult of personality, aka Kim Jong Il in North Korea? News flash: Not going to happen.
Most of the country's schools don't do the pledge of allegience because it violates their parents' sensitivities. This isn't about right or left. This is Hitler Youth-style propaganda spoon-fed to school children here in the United States of America.

I know, I know, Gene. There isn't a damned negative thing anyone can say about a Democrat you'll agree with, and you'd be fine with Obama Admiration clubs starting up in all schools, because schools should teach our kids all kinds of stuff besides math, science, english, art, and history: up to and including jingoistic brainwashing.

Cult of Personality? It's there, Gene, right in front of you. Don't worry. I'll never get to stand at your side and cry havoc when a school does this for a Republican president. It'd never happen. Just saying, though: if it did, I'd be just as creeped out by it.

This whole thing doesn't rank very high on my Trouble-O-Meter. In fact, doesn't rank at all.

Low on my end, but I could tag several videos I've found with similar content. It's disturbing as a trend.

Thankfully the teachers at the school my kids attend wouldn't dream of doing something like this.

Apparently the folks in the New Jersey school district where this happened don't share Gene's cavalier attitude towards the incident, though the school is defending it:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09 ... ent-obama/

"One song that the children were taught quotes directly from the spiritual "Jesus Loves the Little Children," though Jesus' name is replaced with Obama's: "He said red, yellow, black or white/All are equal in his sight. Barack Hussein Obama."

... So we can't have religious songs in school, unless you replace one diety with a new godhead.

OK, Jason, you win. I am now officially emotionally hijacked.

And what does it say that an infrequent flier to this forum took the time to post in this thread to say "This whole thing doesn't rank very high on my Trouble-O-Meter. In fact, doesn't rank at all."? Pray tell, the lady doth protest too much methinks.

If someone similarly used my kid as part of some youth propaganda exercise, there would be bloody hell to pay. My parent's generation didn't fight a second great war to defend this kind of nonsense. Thankfully my school district asks before doing anything even remotely inappropriate. We were given the option not to have our child see the Obama speech to the kids. Did I take the time first to read the speech before allowing my son to see it? Damn straight. Since it was void of a political message and spoke to achievement and responsibility, I allowed the president his bully pulpit. But to my point, at least the school had the sense to ask first, and give the parents a choice.

Perhaps Mr. DeMambro would find it ironic that I, a product of advanced education, would endorse my son's participating in THIS video.

Gee, Bill. Sorry to be categorized an in "infrequent flier". Now we know why the forums have slowed down.....

Still say it's much ado about nothing.

And I wonder what people would be saying if the kids were singing the actual Battle Hymn of the Republic? In school - oh my God - wait cant say that three letter word!

It wasn't a great idea. But would (the same) people have flipped out this much about a song for Bush? Would Hannity have flipped out on that? What would he be saying if a (traitorous liberal probably muslim terrorist lovin) Senator accused Bush of lying in the middle of a speech? What about all those Nazi comments at rallies? It was only a few months ago when it was treason to criticize a President during wartime, and wartime was predicted to last indefinitely. I guess we only made it to the next election with the prohibition, although the wars are ongoing.

I'm disgusted with all this partisan BS. The US is in decline and nobody wants to act like adults and form a real plan, so we get more culture war as an alternative. I'm gonna go work on improving some hospital systems that aren't terminally doomed.

Do you think there are some that won't be hosed by nationalized healthcare delivered at the lowest common denominator?

It was just last week that criticizing this President was racism.

Treason? Hah! There are places in this country where being accused of treason is a badge of honor... but racism? If Appalachia's your thing, I suppose, but really...

Treason a badge of honor? You mean like this: Area where census worker died has troubled history
