Tony:

What gives??!!

My "F'n" PC has developed the habit of periodically deleting my posts if I try to edit them while I'm typing online.

At least 3-4 times a week, I forget this fact, get half way through a post, hit the Backspace button and ZIP! Gonzo. Happened to me twice tonight!

Only, of course, because it's a computer, it doesn't happen all the time.

Any ideas? I'm going to snap, man!

Gary,

Is it deleting the post you are actually
editing or other posts?
If it's the same post, are you hitting the submit button first or is it when you foward after the backspace key the post disappears?

Gary,
Another question too.
Which browser are you using?
Is there a certain time of day?
I've had it happen to me too while posting a message Image
Total pain in the arse!

NOW I'M REALLY LOSING IT!!

It's happening in my email program too!

I use Explorer and when I'm posting like I am now, GOD FORBID that I have a typo!

If I'm typing and I misspell a word and use the Backspace button to correct it. . .GONZO!

And, as I mentioned, it doesn't happen all the time--OF COURSE! Maybe my keyboard is hardwired to use the keyboard to delete whole pages, etc. instead of just a letter or two.

HELP!!!

gary, accidentally hitting the "esc" escape key will delete every line of your post. big whoops.
maybe that's what is happening to you.

for really long replies, I find typing and saving in word, word pad etc.. is the best way not to lose my posting.

Gary,
I hate to go here. Do you use virus protection? If so, when was the last time it was updated.
Also have you installed any new software, or updated any software. i.e. Windows Update, Office 2000 Service Pack1, I.E. 5.5, Netscape 6.
Still trying to think of a way to avoid the next 2 steps.

Dakkon, others:

Thanks for your help. I have McAffee VShield running in the background, so I don't think I have a problem there. And even as I type this, I am "Backspacing" as an experiment (brave, huh) and everything's OK FOR NOW!!

I NEVER use the esc. button for anything. But I have recently upgraded to Office 2000. Maybe still a bit buggy?

Kind of late getting into this, but I also have problems with disappearing post entries while making them on occasion, and have tried every back-page trick I know, and it is gone forever.

Gary,
Office 2k is pretty stable, just DO NOT do the SR1 for it.
I think it depends on the phase of the moon and time of day.
I've hit backspace and you know the story Image
I've forgot/mistyped a password and hit page back and lost the entire post ARGHHHHHHHHHH
I chalk some of it up to the UBB software and some to the browser. I know there is a newer version of UBB software out, don't know what it fixes.
Cheers,
Chuck

p.s.
Let's hope it was just a bad day or 2 Image
