Streaming Buffer Fix

Post by Scott Danziger »

If anybody out there is using a mere mortal 56k modem, here is a fix or at least a remedy that will help you play the streaming media files with less buffer pausing.

Try the following:
To increase the buffer time and reduce interruptions, do the following in Media Player:

Click on View --->
Then Options --->
Then Advanced --->
Highlight Streaming Media (Windows Media) and Click on Change.
Put the dot in Buffering and increase buffer time up to a max of 30 seconds.

I just tested it and it worked vwery well, I played the seichin clip, the 56k version and it didn't pause once. It took a little longer (not much) to buffer in but it played non stop for that clip. And the clarity for 56k is much better than the 28.8 version

Sounds like a great tip Scott. How about posting this tip on the Streaming Video site?

Streaming Buffer Fix

Good news....

If you make the changes in your settings as above, you will be able to view the ISDN and maybe the DSL versions. They will probably pause to buffer data a few times. Especially the larger files but they will play. I just experimented with this. These versions are much clearer than the 56k versions.

And though it may take a little longer to buffer the clips before they start playing with the new settings, it is still way quicker than if you were to download the mpeg or avi version.
