I'm still having problems with WinME! Although all of my programs work, the computer will mysteriously lock-up for no apparent reason. . . at least five times on a busy day.
A friend said I should upgrade to Win200. He claims 2000 is virtually bug free although some older programs won't work with it. (I can live with that!)
I can do the upgrade but that means my error "reduced" ME will have to be completely installed again should 2000 not work. Don't have the time to experient, but if there is a 85-90% chance that 2000 will do the job, I'll take it.
Any comments?

One thing you can try is slowing your video acceleration down a couple notches and see if your problem stops.

I'll tell you, George, I got Windows 2000 in January of 2000 when I buile my 733 Coppermine, and it's the slickest thing since white on rice. I wouldn't be without it; The most trouble-free installations of professional operating systems I ever did was with Windows 2000. Everything just loads and works. Some of the drivers are better than what manufacturers supply with their devices. I blinked my eyes and it knew how to connect my network. It is a pretty smart cookie (O NO I hate that word around PCs).
<center>NO MORE BLUE SCREENs OF DEATH</center>
It actually likes my computers, and knew exactly what to do with my jumbo SCSI drives, something that I had to trick NT into doing. It comes with a built-in defragmenter which I use often.
It also compresses drives giving you about 40% more storage space. Don't have to go out and buy anything and swear at it because of some kind of incompatibility. Drivers for CD Writers are out, which was a big issue with me before.
It knows all about USB.
Windows 2000 has the security built in with NTFS that is not afforded by other "windows" operating systems which are just a pretty face over DOS.
After working with it here for a year, and in industry where everyone who uses it (except for IS, of course), simply loves it.
It is five steps above NT and ten steps above anything else. I recommend it.

I was at Staples tonight, reading the ME and WIN2000 boxes. 2000 had a chart recommending it for business applications, but not for graphic typle programs.
Al: Have you had any experience with 2000 regarding graphic's programs?
Tony: My ME works (for me) as well as 98 ever did. Probably the programs I use.
Anyway, thanks for all the good advice.

George,
I 2nd what Allen said. It's one of the only OS's M$ has done right, built in drivers for most anything on the market, able to handle the new breed of MONSTER hard drives. Windows 2k Pro is a "Heavy Duty" OS it's built for work! I currently have a Video/Graphics machine loaded with it and everything runs fine. Adobe products FLY! Premire is a dream to use now, no more crashes when adding FX. Photoshop runs great. Real Producer and 3d Studio Max just love it. I used to be able to crash 98se with 3ds maxx but Win 2k just plugs along. Simple to install really.
Well worth the $$, granted the new Whistler is `possed to be even better i'm holding judgement on that one. I've heard too many report of it "Phoning Home".

Never mind that Office Max. If you asked their floor personnel, you got about as much info as you did on the cereal boxes you were reading. Now, if Ms Software said all the good stuff about it on their box, no one would buy the other <strike>stiff, er</strike> stuff.
I'm quite satisfied with 2000.
Whistler is still a ways away, Chuck, and is going to be a new animal, another learning experience. Notice on the start menu when you loaded it there is a button for updating it. Once you do that, your pc keeps a record and if you try to reupdate it'll write back and say "Hey! you already did that."

As a Sunday morning addendum I scooped this from nonags.com, a site Tony suggested I look at. It is from a discussion about the new frothcoming Whistler XP: <BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote

Excellent response, George, no incompatibilities with what I'm using. I did the updates of Uechi-ryu 2000 using Windows 2000, and one thing I noticed was the pictures looked BETTER than thay did in NT. Same hardware and software otherwise. Not my imagination, must have ben the drivers. Fact one hardware vendor RECOMMENDED I use Windows 2000's drivers instead of theirs.Al: Have you had any experience with 2000 regarding graphic's programs?

Something to keep your ear to the pavement about before you decide you want to purchase it. If they are going to pull crap like that then I want nothing to do with whistler; software-life is complicated enough as it is already. Now one thing I'd like to point out to our friends at Microsoft is that there are some of us who like to upgrade or build new computers more often than some of their customer support people change underware, and we are not about to call and beg them for permission to let us reinstall software we have paid for.

Anyone have "all-in-wonder" 128 pro experience with 2000?
