To add a graphic within your message, just encase the URL of the graphic image as shown in the following example (without the spaces on the codes).

[ i m g ]h ttp:/ / w w w.infopop.com/artwork/footer_logotype.gif[ / i m g ]
In the example above, the UBBCode™ automatically makes the graphic visible in your message. Note: the "http://" part of the URL is REQUIRED for the [ i m g ] code.

Hope that helps.

Dana / Lori:
I realized I needed a URL to post the pics to...so I took a shortcut and simply emailed them as an attachment to Mr. Mattson's "mailbag".
The goofy geocities thing was just too much hassle. Hope they make it to you; I asked if he would forward them!

I tried to open the files, but they must be in a "mac" format. Anyone know the way these pictures can be transferred to a format understood by my IBM??

Sorry, I goofed on two counts!
I've now simply forwarded them via Outlook Express, and also posted them at: www.imageevent.com/2green
It's one of those freebie 30-day accounts, and I got the url wrong and forgot to un-hide the photos.
Honestly, my Kata IS better than my computer chops...!

Back to women making different fists.

I've seen a lot of times women tuck their thumb inside their fingers.

Allen,

I've seen several women do this as well, but only at the beginning of their training or in women who've never trained. Most women fix this quickly or are shown how to fix it quickly because it will result in a broken thumb.

Also it speaks to how many women have never tried to punch anything with a closed fist -- so they have no idea of how to make one.

What I've noticed off of 2 green's pictures on the other thread is that there is a difference between making a fist where you squeeze your fingers into your palm, vs making a fist where you crank down like you're sqeezing towards your wrist.

A closed fist, 2 knuckle, seiken punch is not in any of the 3 original kata. So I'm guessing it was added by Kanei Uechi via japanese or Okinawan influence. So that brings me to the question of who's closed fist did he adopt? Was it a traditional Okinawan 2 knuckle fist? Was it what he felt was the best fist to make in order to make uechi competitive in the sparring rink? It could also have been learned from his father.

I realize that most folks here do not believe in or have worked with Kyusho principles enough to make them workable.

But all the Women reading this should do themselves a favor and read an article in the recnet Black Belt magazine from Kim Dillman. It relates how a Female can effect a Male better, it is the simplest and best information you should integrate into your Art.

Evan & Becky,

I invite one of you to open a new thread to review the article and to discuss polarity. This is a somewhat controversial topic and at the same time is well deserving of discussion. It is a very different idea than vital point or pressure point striking. It has to do with the idea of an open hand or closed hand technique may work better depending on the gender of the person hitting and the person being hit.

Black Belt isn't available on newstands here so I have to drive out to a martial arts school to pick up a copy which I hope to do wednesday. In the meantime - if someone could outline the key thoughts in the article - that would be great.

I've read discussions on polarity by Kim Dillman in the past on a different discussion group - and the ideas were fascinating.

Uninformed opinions will be guesses as to the validity of this idea - so a little information first could go a long way. I'd like to keep this thread focused on punch mechanics.

Thanks,
Dana

2Green, thanks so much for your excellent posting of the detailed fist description! Jules (my trainer) and I have found this thread to be of profound benefit to us. We are really thinking now, not only about how we train ourselves, but also training our own daughters, and the other young girls we work with at our dojo. We are thinking now, do we actually NEED to try to make them look like the boys, or is there a more 'powerful' way to train girls, through recognition of these male/female physiological differences like those being discussed here? As the highest ranking females in our dojo, Jules and I feel it is so important to research our Art and pass on our knowledge. What an education we are getting here! Thank-you so much! Respectfully, _(_)_ Tunetigress
