What was this man saying??

Post by IJ »

Just watch Dubya SORT OF respond to questions from the press. Here's an irreverent recounting for those of you who missed it (don't read it if you're feeling fragile when it comes to questioning the president).

--------------

Q: Explain to Americans how this will not become another vietnam style regime change failure.

A: I do. I pray every night. I swore to uphold our Consitution. On a Bible. Not the Koran. And that's why one individual from the executive branch holds the unilateral power to declare war.

Q: Tell us what the worst case scenarios are as far as retaliation.

A: Think about the Iraqis. Children. I pray for them too. And the threat is imminent. We cannot discount that.

Q: North Korea is also run by a fanatic dictator, but one that's working on missiles that can reach us and may be nuke tipped. Should we invade?

A: Yes, we should invade. Iraq. Because we know what kind of a man Saddam is. 12 years. Lies. We should rely on diplomacy. It has failed. We have to go to war, but I hope we do not have to. If we go to war, it is for peace. France notwithstanding.

Q: Are more americans going to die if we can't use those Turkey bases?

A: We don't need Turkey. Turkey is our friend. I prefer Chicken. No american troops will suffer a hangnail because of not being able to use those bases we are aggressively pursuing. We don't need them.

Q: What if everyone but you was opposed to the war?

A: Great question. Duct tape. The danger is real. The danger is near. The oil is near. This man tried to kill my dad. And that's why we must. And this man, is not the people that attacked us on 9/11. But he's close enough.

Q: Do americans deserve straight answers about this stuff?

A: Good question. My job is to protect you. And yes, to be frank, I take this job seriously. Sometimes. And I say this. For the stiffest peaks, whip eggwhites in a copper bowl. Meticulously clean beaters. No yolk in the mixture. Thank you and God bless america.

Forgive the humor... I get ticked off when someone invokes such grand rhetoric while trying to mislead me. I pretty much had no idea what the guy was talking about the entire performance. What seems clear is that the discussion was NOT there for the purpose of disseminating information to listeners. Regardless of the issues of whether we should go to war, or whether there wioll be counterstrikes from terrorists that we make worse, or whether north korea is worse--do people think our president was giving us the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth? Or is there something more sinister here than poor public speaking skills?
