I was so thrilled over the birth of our new grandson, Gabriel last week. On the tails of such happiness, I found out this morning that my husband's company, Wella(a German owned company) was just bought out by Proctor and Gamble. Ensuing result: the company headquarter, which are currently in Richmond, is supposed to be moved up north somewhere.....which means either we will have no job or will have to move. The possibility of my husband finding a job with a large company like this, here in Richmond, is unlikely.
I am sitting here try to ****** up those tears that want to burst forth over the thought of leaving my new grandchild and those I love dearly. Amazing how quickly you can go from ecstatic joy to devastating sadness so quickly. I have moved so much all my life. I don't want to move.
Joy and tears,
Vicki

Wow, Yesterday I read the article about Wella and immediately thought about you. However, I did not think things would happen so quickly.
Personally, I faced the same situation a number of times during my career with GE. There were closures, dispositions, mergers, acquisitions, reorganizarions etc. In fact, I ended up in Richmond in 1987 after GE decided to close the business I was in. That was my sixth move for GE, and a really good one as it turned out. After about 10 years here, we decided as a family that there would be no more moves... the loyalty was shifting to the region and away from GE.
Just recently, I faced the need for a change because of shifts in business and management. Rather than look elsewhere in the country/company I/we decided to stay put in Richmond and make do with life without GE. That was a pretty staggering decision to make after almost 29 years of GE as my only employer after college.
What am I going to do about it? Have not decided yet, but I empathise for you. We will stay put.
Want the # for Henrico public schools? Sub teaching sounds like fun.

Hi Vicky,
Just curious, what is your husbands position with Wellla?
I work in the industry as well. The company I work for,Artec, was bought by Loreal recently. A lot of people at our corperate offices in New York had to re-locate or find other employment. We lost a lot of great people but many of them found exciting new positions in other companys. Remember, when one door closes another one opens.

Don't want to leave
Thanks all for you encouraging words....that means a lot to me.
Davy is director of purchasing for Wella. It will be hard to find that kind of position unless he goes to a large company. It is what it is.
Bill. you may better get those green belts to brown, get Joel (recent new shodan), get your higher brown belt back, and get them in teaching positions. Now is the time. One good thing, you have a most excellent blackbelt instructor in Reno. I sure hope he can stay a while longer. Wonderful, devoted MA who is forever seeking knowledge in this art.
I have discovered from years of moving, people can be replaced. There are always others out there to fill those shoes....too many good people out there to step up to the plate, if just given the opportunity. You have a gold mine, you just need to mine it.......build it and they will come.
Regards,
Vicki
