Is there an Uechi-Ryu school in the Los Angeles area? (Closer to Glendale)

Specific to Bill Glasheen's teachings?

I'm an interested in the art just based on the great community of people on these boards.

Thanks for information.

Sorry, but all I have is red-headed sisters out there. :)

I see Jerry MacDonald in San Diego (former Marine, former Charlie Earle student, and a fellow I used to know several decades ago). Chris Gundell apparently teaches in Manhattan Beach, which is actually closer to LA. Mike Dedonato (of the Ahti Kaend group) also appears to have a phone area code in the general LA area. My thinking is you may find a few former Ahti Kaend people down there; they are good people.

Check out the California section of the instructor listing. Call around and ask some of these people. Sometimes you can get more information by networking.

Good luck!

Bill,

For an east coast guy you did a nice job, but you missed a couple: George Sitton, who also teaches at the Garden Grove Dojo, and Joe Graziano. With Joe, you get a student of Walter Mattson and Master Gushi (that's Joe on the conditioning tape) and a chance to train in kobudo as well. I had the pleasure of training with both Mike and George this past weekend in San Jose, and you cannot go wrong with the guys from Garden Grove.

Unfortunately, none of the folks in L.A. have classes in the Glendale area, (or if they do they're keeping quiet about it) but they may be able to link you up with others in your area who train with them. Master Gushi often holds Saturday classes (as in all day Saturday) so no matter where you are in Southern California it is worth the drive. If you just want to get a taste of Uechi, Dragon Times holds seminars at their training facility featuring Master Gushi. Check the Dragon Tsunami website for dates and price.

Peace

Robb and Joan Neide led a workout two weeks ago for some of of us West Coast practitioners. Thanks to both of you for your efforts. It was great seeing and working with you!
