Good choices, Norm! And yes, what woderful quotes. You know a movie is a great movie when a line becomes part of the contemporary language.

I found this Website that gives lots of great quotes from movies. And yes, both your movies are there, Norm!

"What we've got here is failure to communicate."

...and...

"Make him an offer he can't refuse."

ALL-TIME BEST MOVIE QUOTES

OK, let's see, let's see... Problem is, you really need categories. Comedies and dramas and romances and action films and sci fi flicks really can't be compared.

I'll go with two knee-jerk answers. I chose these films not because they were the best by today's standards, but because they led to even better modern films

1) Kirasawa's Seven Samurai

2) Casablanca

Star Wars and The Godfather.

Honorable mention to The Manchurain Candidate, which is my Mom's favorite film, which I always find time to watch when it's on cable.

Moulin Rouge and Aliens (the second one). MR was creative, funny, sad, romantic, sexy, great story, great dancing, pretty darn good singing. Aliens, well, nothing is cooler than a minigun duct taped to a flame thrower and grenade launcher. What a rush of a movie.

JUST TWO!!! No way!

I also like the Seven Samurai, but my Daddy and I had as our favorite the American Western remake: The Magnificent Seven... Yul Brenner... I think we should be able to pick at least one per category... maybe two! I'm a big fan of Tombstone.

But I can't have a favorites list without The Matrix... (wrings hands in anticipation of May 15th!)

There are lots more...

One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest,

The Illustrated Man, or Apocalypse Now, or Platoon...all tied for 2nd place.

OK, I cheated! It's really tough. Like Magnificent 7 too...inspired me to learn how to open & throw a knife quickly!
