Publishing
I don't know why I haven't thought to ask here before, but the Tuttle thread brought it up.
I have a manuscript about ready. Does anyone have publishers that they would suggest be queried first? Tuttle was my first choice since they seem to have published a large percentage of the books on my shelves.
Any advice would be great.

Congratulations Rory,
I want one!
Publishers and editors don't necessarily come together.
Your book should be seen by an editor, an outside pov.
This can be a very painful experience so you choose one you can talk to and understand, don't be in the position of having to work with one the publisher gives you.
The easy part of publishing is getting the product made, the hard part is marketing ad distribution - go to a number of publishing houses and see what they will do for you. All the most wonderful books in the world sitting in your basement won't do anyone any good.

Talk to Mr. Mattson first- he helped me such a great deal. I wound up publishing my young adult story- myself- and got screwed so if you can help it- don't go that route- or else make sure everything is in writting- OR it's a place you can drive to. YES check with an editor- but it doesn't have to be a proffessional one. You can have friends help before that. If a few friends go through and check for errors- then it should be ok to go with one which is in a publishing house. My experiences anyway-
Good luck. This part of the process is the hardest- don't get too frustrated OR take anything personally. I wish you great success!
Kerry-
I'll be submitting to Tuttle also!

Check with George Donahue
Rory: Mr. Donahue is "the man" to talk with about your book. (Formally with Tuttle) If it is right for his company, he will treat you fairly and can be trusted to publish a quality product. I've sent him an email to drop in and set up an on-line meeting with you.
Good luck

I'm willing to answer any questions regarding publishing. I'm also willing to consider manuscript submissions on a wide range of subjects. I don't get on the net very often these days, so it's best to talk to me directly.
I'm not with Tuttle anymore, but I have acquired a couple of martial arts books at Lyons Press. Those will be out next year.
