Benzo,

Sorry to give the wrong impression with regard to our government, perhaps I should have declared I was in rant mode (rant mode=off).
Well...you spout on and on about how corrupt and unfair the US government is. It protects its own doesn't it?
Quite often the government is working towards our betterment and our constitution was devised such that ordinary folks get to have a say in how our government shall function, up to and including foreign policy.

To the extent that I feel the Bush adminstration has not furthered our safety in going full bore into Iraq, I ask you to accept that as my humble opinion in this regard.

My opinion is based upon my experiences which include completing a BS in Earth & Geographic Sciences with a minor in Physics. We spent a lot of time looking at maps if not outright making them. From what I learned in Air Photo Interpretation class, the claims made by members of the administration seemed to be stretching the truth a wee bit.

We Know where they are? Who said that?

Without ground confirmation? There are no certainties in remote sensing without ground confirmation. Why are site inspections so important in treaty verifications? Cuz a building that looks like one thing from above or at an oblique angle may house another thing entirely. What Clinton's intelligence folks thought was a weapons plant turned out to be an aspirin factory (ok to bash the former adminstration, right?).

How can we make things right with these lunatics?
Kill 'em if you have to, hunt 'em down n try them in a court of law if you can take them into custody. Do your best not to trample on people's rights in the process (there may be innocents among the guilty).

One thing that made this country the place that we all love so much is its justice system. It aint perfect, it has some flaws and it needs overhauling from time to time (we can discuss these issues on a different thread perhaps), but it keeps us from anarchy. We need more faith in that justice system right now. IMHO, the Patriot ACT is a lack of faith in that Justice System.

Justice is served...

As I quoted above from Thomas Jefferson...
Because religious belief, or non-belief, is such an important part of every person's life, freedom of religion affects every individual. Religious institutions that use government power in support of themselves and force their views on persons of other faiths, or of no faith, undermine all our civil rights. Moreover, state support of an established religion tends to make the clergy unresponsive to their own people, and leads to corruption within religion itself. Erecting the "wall of separation between church and state," therefore, is absolutely essential in a free society.
Kill me if you think me an infidel. I'd gladly give my life for the cause. And to all the pro-life Christians, pro-Islam whackos, and other idiots armed with bombs and planes, my death would serve to illustrate the absurdity of your extremist convictions.

Congrats on your education. If college wasn't so damn difficult, expensive, and time consuming, there would be more people with degrees out there.

My question to you is can we prove that Iraq totally dismantled their chemical, nuclear, or biological weapons programs. If given the opourtunity to use these weapons against the US via a terrorist organization do you think Saddam would have done it?

Going along with the same theme of influencing people, political viewpoints, theocracies vs. secular governments, etc. I about choked on my Diet Mountain Dew this morning when reading this.

First... Let's show the U.S. battle of separation of church and state in action.

Now let's show another's view of a "liberal, open, educational environment."
In the September/October issue, lefty publication Mother Jones identifies this year's "top 10 activist campuses," with the University of Tehran getting top honors. (Reason: the "unflinching dissent" of its student body last November after a history professor was sentenced to death for his views on who should have the power to interpret the Koran. His sentence eventually was commuted to 74 lashes and eight years in prison.)

Gee, gotta watch out for those flaming liberals in Iran, no? I guess it's all relative.

I'm sorry... This is why I cringe whenever I hear the word "liberal" or "right wing" - usually used by some to describe someone they don't like. CAN WE PLEASE UPGRADE THE DIALOGUE!!! We are not children, and you don't need to dichotomize our world for us. Me good; you misinformed.

There's only one way to describe the mentality quoted above. And we don't need to get complex here for those who are verbally challenged.
manure
Related: Agriculture

term used in the United States to refer to excreta of animals, with or without added bedding; also called barnyard manure.
So, when we hear "Dr." D. James Kennedy talking about "liberals" who are against Chief Justice Roy Moore, (see Defending the 10 Commandments) do we now have a more precise word in our vocuabulary to describe this?

Repeat after me. M.. A... N...

Should we feel guilty because the U.S. is not allowing the Shi-ites from Iran to influence the development of a government in Iraq? Should we be surprised that there are extremists in the Middle East neighborhood that want the new "U.S. tainted" Iraqi government to fail?

Will those who insist on forcing Christianity on our government and schools in this country ever get it?

Beware those that seek to sow the seeds of anarchy.

Iraq is becoming a magnet these days for the malevolent from Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, and other muslim countries. And word is that they don't want them back after they go to Iraq. They learned their lesson (Bin Laden et al) after exporting mujahadin to Afghanistan in the uprising against the Soviets. Those fighters came back to sow the seeds of mischief in their native countries. Mix these whackos with the remains of Sadaam's regime (and their weapons) and you've got some serious mess going on.

No matter how much I hate the creation of theocracies, the fabric of a nation cannot be maintained without such leaders working with their people outside of government. And the more diverse the mix of such religions and religious leaders, the better as far as I'm concerned.
