I'm going to have to break out the old study guide for some of this, I haven't learned all the Japanese names of the techniques yet.

So far, these days the roundhouse that was so deadly in my past life is gone. Right now, by best move is usually just a simple front kick from the lead leg. I can usually get that in pretty consistantly.

I do have a good tactic against one of the other advanced students in class. I play with batting down his hands all the time. Every once in a while after batting his hands, I'll throw something big and it gets through. I think the distraction rattles him.

hey Jorvik i hear you , I love the elbows , I took em of my list above as I notoced the ring reference , The Thais influence me here to

Shotokan actually in certain circles has a lot of work with the elbows , my old club did elbow drills from the AJKA lineage , with lots of combos .

I`m always amazed at youth and there speed and naturalness , i rememver watching a juniour tournament and watching a kid move which such loosness and determination I was wishing someday to move like him .... The fact he was about 8 and Ive been training longer than hes been breathing still doesnt rattle me

Spitkicker.
The first technique I mentioned was a "Dojo" Technique  ..the second wasn't. It was a principle, break it down play with it make it yours. Make it the " Spitkicker Spin" 8)
But always be aware that what looks crap in the Dojo sometimes works well on the street....and vice versa, it's very hard oftentimes to tell the two apart.that is why you have folks who call themselves " Traditionalists"...who mainly practise kata and Bunkai disagreeing with " Modernists" who do what they "think" is streetfighting.....neither has the whole picture ( and I don't think for one minute that I do....but at least I know this  )l

In the ring I have a pretty simple combo that seems to work. Triple reverse punch (right, left, right) followed by a nice right front kick. But, on the street or in a bar, where you are likely to find yourself at a disadvantage at best.... Since I'm not a very big guy, I have to look for every advantage I can. I make sure I have plenty of saliva in my mouth. What? Saliva? If I can tell things are gonna come to blows, especially in and around Boston where there are often knives or guns involved, I'll spit in the guys face. The guy will at least close his eyes, which is when I get my punch in, or I run if needs be. What if that doesn't work? Well, it hasn't not worked yet.
