Kanshiwa bunkai video

Post by druid »

Hi,
Could somebody tell me where I can find some kanshiwa bunkai(bankai) movies? I am from Poland and there is not a single dojo of Uechi-RYu. Me and some friends of mine have a couple of vhs but there is no aplications of katas in them.
We also aren't able to buy other ones because it is still too expensive to us. That is why I am looking for any short movies with bunkai in the internet. I fins many clips with kata but no one of uechi-ryu kata bukani. Please help me.
Regards

Please tell us how we can get in touch with you. If you can't find any source for these bunkai, I'd be happy to film it for you and burn a CD.

We need to keep our Polish brothers informed! Say hi to my ancestors up north in Lithuania when you get a chance. :)

Yuk she mush! (Likely spelled wrong.)

Bill, I made one with Jim. However, the scan rates are different in Europe where 50 Hz reigns. Plus, might be set up on the PAL standard. However, if they use good old Microsoft in their computer, and have a dVD reader, that would work.

I know there is a real great demo of kanshiwa bunkai by Mike Aceto at a Regional workout.

Of course, the three attackers and Mike were doing it "pre-arranged", but for some of us, this is about as "real" as we want to get.

If I have time later today, I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you for all help I get from you. Actually somebody gave me an url where I found kanshiwa bunkai.
But if you guys have video movies maybe made by your own, with some uechi basics technicks, kata, other bunkais excersize and drills, it would be great if you can send it to my on cd. Although we have some vhs, sometimes techincks are done too fast and it is imposible to see how to do them.
We use Palm standart in tv but I gess if we put cd in a PC it would work.

Rich and others

My undergradutate training was in math and electrical engineering and I have traveled through Europe, so I am aware of the varying video standards. This is why I suggested the computer as opposed to the video route. We can test whatever we produce with our school in Regensburg, Germany, which also uses a PAL video format.

Do you have a DVD reader on one of your computers? We have some very high quality video equipment here, and a student who seems excited to be photographer. To the extent that something is not generally available or you are limited in funds, we could do some pro bono (free) digital video work for you.

Tell me what you'd like, and we'll see what we can do for you. Whatever we produce would be useful for other Uechi Ryu schools in my network. If there is existing material available, then perhaps I can purchase it and send it to you so we can help a new group get started.

Bill,
I don't have a dvd reader in a PC. I only have the one wich is directly to tv conected. But a frienf of mine have so maybe it is posiible to recopy a dvd? I don't know axactly if one can do that. I only know that friend of mine some time ago baught a vhs in US online shop and the cassete was in NTSC system so he had to find somebody with video recorder that read NTSC vhs and rewrite the vhs.

Considering you proposal, it would be great if you could send me a cd with basic techniques and driils, three first katas and bukai to these, which have bunkai.
For us the most inportant thing is to learn corectly basic techniques ( we know that from the trainings in other karate styles) that is why any suggestions how to do them will be appreciated. I mean somthing what in e.g. shorin-ryu is called kihon.
Also, if you have taped a regular training of uechi-ryu, just to show how it should look like, it would be nice if we could see this.
Bill, we don't want you, or anybody, to incur any costs for exemple conected with purchasing anything. I hope you understand what I mean. I would feel ambarrassed.

Thank you for your interest and all help

Do not feel embarrassed, and do not think that there would be any trouble at all on our part. We would be delighted and honored to develop contacts in Poland. I travel quite a bit, and some of my students travel even more. Perhaps one day we will meet.

I will see what I can do. We have some smart people here who can probably arrange to put something together for you. I'll be back in contact once we figure it out.

Thanks for the interest.

Blazej, I mailed you a cd on the 6th. Some one else who has a copy of it tells me they can not open it. Let me know if you have a problem opening it. If you can not get it to work I can burn it on DVD, which works better an way.

In the mean time here is a clip of us exploring the bunkai.

keep in mind this should be stepped up and become multiple striking as your become comfortable with the material.

This clip is 19 MB so you might want to have a cup of tea or a beer while it loads

Hope it helps
