I took two of the tests and got "field marshall"-type from one, and "artist"-type from the other.
Something which has not been brought up is the fact that because it is YOU answering the questions about YOU, the test reveals not so much what you are, but what you PERCIEVE yourself to be.
The test reflects your self-perception, not necessasarily your actual presentation to others; what you "are"...to the world in general.

The more accurate and perhaps shocking way to take such a test is to have someone who knows you very well answer the questions, not you.
Then you might see an accurate description of yourself, although VERY likely not the one you imagine.

Perstonality Profiles...

Good point, 2 Green. That goes along with how we perceive our selves to look physically:

How we think we look, in our minds (We still see ourselves at, maybe 30, because we still maybe feel in our minds how we did at 30, maybe we look every bit the 40 that we are, just don't feel 40).

How we actually look to others when they see us.

How we think others see us (depending on our state of mind, maybe grossly better or grossly worse).

How we actually look when we see ourselves in the mirror (crap, when did that happen, those wrinkles around my eyes).

How the camera captures how we look (not very forgiving, they say it puts 10 pounds on us.....sometimes we end up looking more like, not medium, not large but 'oh my gosh it's heading this way" or there is no 'good side of me'.

Just some stream of conscious thoughts.

Maybe not. This is meant to assess "gut feelings" and then predict the way you likely behave based on those reported feelings. Because the instrument was calibrated on user-reported responses and not on externally observed characteristics, then it is best taken as recommended. That's a subtle detail, but important nonetheless.

Good thought though.

The judgement of the classification description by your friends after the fact could provide what I like to call "the sniff test." If it's so close that it's scary, then the instrument probably worked well for you.

Try this... First look through the 16 descriptions, and pick the one that you think fits your close friend or spouse with a "unique" personality. (Don't tell them beforehand) Then have them take the test, and see if you get it right. That would be the best validation.

Methinks Sandra will be an ISFP. We shall see...

MIRROR IMAGES DO NOT REFLECT REALITY!

Post by HALFORD E. JONES »

You can polish the mirror all day long and wipe off the dust, as the old Zenists say, but .......Anyway,the mirror does not reflect how others see you as has been pointed out innumerable times. Now if the mirror should crack when you fact it! That's another story and, again, when the mirror starts talking to you, ala "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...."

THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO DO FAVORS AND THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO

Post by HALFORD E. JONES »

DO TASKS! I never do favors for any of my superiors, bosses, supervisors, or senseis, etc. I only do tasks! I make that clear to them. Now what's that say really?

Rory and I actually did that experiment and came up with an interesting result. Only one letter changed, if I remember correctly I believe it was that our Ns (Intuition) switched to Ss (Sensing). The conclusion we came to was that we didn't know each other's internal workings and took the test based on what we saw from the outside, which would focus more on the concrete rather than the internal thoughts of the person. It was a very fun test to do.

I'm curious to see if others have the same result.

The latest issue of THE JOURNAL OF ASIAN MARTIAL ARTS has an article, entitled, GRAVITATION VERSUS CHANGE:EXPLAINING THE REALATIONSHIP BETWEEN PERSONALITY TRAITS AND MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING! I suspect that some of this pertains to what everyone has been attempting to discuss here. Check it out! Let me know.

:D MYERS-BRIGGS sounds like Ligget and Myers, Briggs and Stratton,et al. I really haven't delved into this test and so I can't say much about it and at this stage of the game, can't see how it would do much for me, but probably would please a lot of others, maybe, who are curious to see how I do. Most tests of this sort look for consistencies and discrepancies over a period of time or within a time limit/frame. I should have to look more into what it is all about other than just a personality assessment or typing or profiling. The problem with all this is that we all possess a 'CHIEF FEATURE' so obvious to others but not to ourselves. We are 'chief feature blind'. Everyone can point it out to us but we all have ways to deny their observations.

Just out of interest I asked my wife to do the test for me, so to speak :D .and the result was quite interesting she had me as an INFP whereas I had myself as an INTJ
( I must add that like Justin, I am a little sceptical of these tests)
I guess that you cannot have two more apart readings the first is very people oriented the second is indifferent.you could also read it that my wife believed that I had these good qualities.....rather like in my place of work were if you are quiet you are seen as intelligent ( whereas I would conclude they were a fool.a quiet man is either a wise man or a fool :multi:
interesting

Halford

Do you have any idea why I started the thread?

Would you at least try to take it? It doesn't bite... Nobody here has been maligned for essentially being themselves.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHY YOU DID START THIS TOPIC!

Post by HALFORD E. JONES »

:D Must be something in your personality considered it a good idea, etc.Anyway, I don't have time to do this at present. The simplest tests I do these days is the crosswords I find in various newspapers at work that others bring in and leave, etc. But perhaps someday I will sit down and attempt this test whatever it is! In the meantime, disregard any of my inane comments, which seem to flow out from my particular and peculiar personality, that curious construct from culture and society, parental intrusions and admonishions, and so forth......a thing that will dissolve upon death,no doubt,unless.....

The reason likely will become apparent when/if you do take the test and share the results. It's a hunch I have...

Whenever you have the time.
