"Anorexia is not a big problem in Saudi Arabia, for example. I trust readers will figure out why" --Sorry I can't figure that one out."

Anorexia is about control, usually, a young woman with a nasty personality disorder exerting control over her entire family by refusing to eat and trying to kill herself. And it's probably in large part made possible by our half fat half over dieting culture and emphasis on thinness. If you go too far into starvation your brain is affected and then you're hosed. In Saudia Arabia women are subjugated and covered with burkas and spared/denied exposure to thinness culture and string bikinis.

"Well of course, but on the other hand banning guns goesn't prevent a stabbing spree, or a baseball bat spree..ect."

Yes, agreed, that's what *I* said.

"But my thesis is that banning guns doesn't stop mass murder."

Again, yes. But that isn't the issue we need to settle. The issue is, will banning guns reduce violence (in Japan, specifically). That can't be settled by looking at a stabbing spree--not a tiny bit more than a shooting spree is iron clad proof that gun control would save lives.

Further, the fact the Japanese police can search you anytime, anywhere, including cavity, doesn't mean they prevent gun possession that way. They don't search everyone, right? Or their homes? All you need to do is blend in. It's only the young women who don't know who they're visiting traveling from Columbia to NYC that get screened for being a drug mule. McVeigh might never have been caught if the moron wasn't pulled over from his driving right after his bombing. If you avoid attention you can do quite well hiding things from the police.
