Camp Check List (Please contribute)

Post by Bill Glasheen »

I had a request for another "Do not forget to bring this" list.

I will start...

* Sunscreen and lip balm

* A hat

* Sunglasses

* A fan for room (it can be hot at night)

* Bedding material for top of mattress (recommended)

* Camera (still). You must get permission from GEM to do video of sessions. (Sadly in the past we had someone who taped and then tried to market his videos)

* White gi for photos (and if you are testing).

* Dark gi bottom to avoid grass and clay stains. Wear white top to avoid getting too hot

* If you plan on doing ground work, consider a nonwhite gi/uniform/attire.

* Sparring safety equipment if you want to do sparring sessions.

* Weapons if you want to do a weapon at camp (send in airline checkin baggage)

* Water bottle. Drink lots of water. Beware of drinking too much caffeine - it is a diuretic.

* Backpack for the field to keep your keys and valuables. Don't forget to put your name on it!!!!

* Cell phone. Dorm phones rarely in order.

* Personal items... What do you plan on doing in the off hours?

* Casual clothing for evenings.

* Martial arts shoes (if you have them). The ground is a bit rough on bare feet.

* Musical instrument (if you like) for nighttime parties.

* Blunt weapon (to use on late-night partiers in dorms).

* Business cards (and your PDA if you are in to that...)

* Emergency home phone numbers

* Shower shoes that can double as sandals. Showers are guaranteed to give you athletes foot.

* Extra toilet paper.

* Fiber laxative if you need it.

* Diarrhea medicine if you think you might need it.

* Any other meds and/or vitamins you take

* Notebook and pens (or laptop) to take notes. Very useful when learning new form or picking up pointers from instructors.

* Awareness. You are away from home. Others around you are away from home and the watchful eyes of those that keep them in check. THINK!!!

* A way to keep track of those coming with you that you care about.

That should be a good start...

Some items (like the extra toilet paper) can be gotten with a quick run to the town drug store. Like...

* Laundry soap for the machines. Ideally get one already with bleach alternative and stain remover. DON'T wash grass and clay stained gis in hot water!!!

* Quarters for laundry machines

* Snacks. Make sure they will keep in heat! For example, many Zone bar flavors have coatings that melt in the heat.

Just in case!!!

Bring an umbrella, in case we have to move classes to the gym. (5 minute walk) and a waterproof pullover or light jacket in case it gets wet/cold during the days or evenings.

Itzakaddozie

Post by Van Canna »

Don’t forget a good supply of Coolsicles, like “chocolate orange and cream” :puppydogeyes:

“firecrackers” a three tiered patriot ice pop with stripes of blue raspberry, white lemon and cherry…. :shocked!:

A few “Zoombas” , push up tube of orange, lemon, and lime sherbert. :mrgreen:

And , my all time favorite “itzakadoozie” a whacky ice pop wand with lemon spiraled by stripes of cherry, orange and lime. :evilbat:
