Meditating in Sanchin

Post by KerryM »

Been doing quite a bit of meditation standing in Sanchin.

Interesting thing: begining at my feet- and moving upwards- depending on how long the meditation is, my feet, and legs fall asleep-

*note* I "am" flat footed- would this be a cause or effect?

Any thoughts?

I haven't done sanchin in a while (don't miss it much), but I do have flat feet. The nerves are being kinked by the weight of the fallen ankle which causes the foot to fall asleep. It happens to me during long periods in kiba dachi during kihon.

hmm- so the falling asleep would go higher as well if the nerve was kinked-

sometimes I actualy hold my arch area up- (yeah my feet wind up in serious pain later but I have a HUGE muscle there! lol)

wait- you don't do Sanchin much? Do you still practice Uechi-ryu?

When I was pregnant, my doc sent me to a specialist because the "siatic" (sp?) nerve was being pinched from the babies weight- that would go all the way down- maybe this is going all the way up- ?

I thank you for your help- I was begining to wonder about "my sanchin" and my hub/Sensei sometimes has the tendency to let me stew in questions before answering them LOL part of his "teaching his wife" technique I guess LOL- Silly- but fun-

A couple of my students have flat feet as well so I really do appreciate the info- so I can pass it a long as well.

:)

Have a good day-

I did some miebukan goju, couldn't stand the sensei always degrading other styles. She did it so often I quite, no one style is better then another it's how you use the tools you are learning.

The issue you speak of has very little to do with sciatica from pregnancy. That's generally of lumbar spine origin.

Your problem (I believe) is due to blood pooling in the legs from standing too long without contracting the leg muscles. Actually we've had students fall like flies in class just from standing and listening. Generally one needs to contract the leg muscles to keep the blood going uphill and back to the heart. Anyone who has to stand at attention for long periods of time will tell you the importance of keeping the knees bent and contracting the leg muscles now and then.

Sounds like you answered your own Question My dear. Hmmm I guess I'm doing that Sensei thing lol.
Karataka You would see the world in a different place if you studied Sanchin. Sanchin is in everything. Sanchin is small and simple. Too simple to be a kata for ohers. The secret to sanchin is it is three conflicts.
A thing you practice by conflict. Perfect for an art with fighting as it's method. Fighting with respect is Martial Arts. Some one said ."Pradtice everyday slowly and by focusing on the small things.

Hope this helps you.
Sorry for using your handle there sweetheart. George I hope this is not a big rule breaker. Hope you and Susan are well and healthy.
