Ben
He's the man!
Gene
I'd say John Kerry has the pulse of the long suffering Red Sox fan down pat...
No, Gene, you have this wrong.
First, this is typical of his pattern of behavior
* He goes to Vietnam and gets assigned to a swiftboat, hoping to be just like the Real man pictured above. That's PT-109 JFK himself. It'll look good on his resume, after all, since it worked for JKF.
Then when things get tough in the war later on, he abandons ship and betrays soldiers being held captive in Hanoi. I believe the label Benedict Arnold has been thrown around. Whatever... Gotta change horses in midstream because this one isn't doing so well. We wouldn't want to tarnish our future political aspirations, now, would we?
Sorry, Kerry, you're no Jack Kennedy!
* He votes for the war in Iraq. Furthermore, he and his trial lawyer running mate appear on multiple newsprograms spewing bellicose language. Then when things get tough on the campaign trail (the anti-war governor of NH appears to be whooping his butt) he finds religion and decides he's against the war after all. Wrong war... you know the line.
* He shows up at a Bosox game just before the DNC, because the Sox are on a tear. He throws out the first pitch (which bounces, BTW). Oh and in case you didn't know, this Senator from Massachusettes had to be briefed on the personnel and records of the team before he showed up. Not exactly an informed fan of the state team, is he? Nevertheless, he gets his photo opportunity in Fenway.
Here's an interesting description of the event that's been floating around online.
Kerry threw out the first pitch last night in Boston during the
Red Sox/Yankees ball game to Spec. Will Pumyea, 23, a military police
officer in the Massachusetts National Guard from Woburn, Mass., who
had just returned from Iraq and who also had previously served in
Afghanistan.
Kerry then watched the game from the owners' box with his wife, his
two daughters, Spec. Will Pumyea, former Sen. John Glenn of Ohio,
Red Sox owners John Henry and Tom Werner, and Katie Couric, the co-
anchor of NBC's "Today" show who is dating Werner. Glenn fought in
Korea with Ted Williams, the legendary Red Sox slugger.
Now.... The story behind the picture. The Boston Red Sox had
scheduled a returning solider from Iraq, Spec. Will Pumyea to throw
out the first pitch during their game with the New York Yankees last
night and watch the game from the owners box, until Senator John Kerry
decided to change his plans and appear at the game. Senator Kerry's
people decided he would throw out the first pitch and Spec. Will Pumyea
could catch the Senator's pitch.
Senator Kerry from halfway between the pitchers mound and home plate
threw the ball which bounced in the dirt and past the glove of Spec.
Pumyea.
Senator Kerry then proceeded to the owners box along with Spec. Pumyea
and their wives. Spec. Pumyea being honored at the game for all our
soldiers was allowed to stay in the owners box until the photo
opportunities
were completed.
At the end of one and a half innings Spec. Pumyea and his wife were
unceremoniously escorted from the owners box to the last row at the
top of the stadium while Senator Kerry and his guest enjoyed the game
in the owners box. I'm sure Spec. Pumyea felt honored.
What a way to honor our military.

And then just when the Bosox have to face the legendary men in pinstripes for a difficult ALCS, this is what he says.
KERRY: Boy, to listen to that -- the president, I don't think, is living in a world of reality with respect to the environment.
Now, if you're a Red Sox fan, that's OK. But if you're a president, it's not.
And then YOU come along and defend him. Which state do you live in, Gene?
I'll tell you what... If the Red Sox lose to the Yankees, you and Scotty can have your fun. (I respect Scotty, because at least he's a loyal fan. Scotty can trash talk all he wants.) But I'll tell you this. Don't either you or Kerry get anywhere near Fenway and my boys when/if they win. You have shown yourself not worthy.
To start with, anyone with a brain can figure out that each year starts with a new team. The Yankees cannot win on the reputation of ballplayers pushing daiseys. Every team and every player has to go out there every day and EARN their victories. This Yankee team actually got whooped by the Bosox in the regular season. They have their work cut out for them.
Furthermore, this world doesn't need politicians or sports fans with the spines of jelleyfish. You pick a political position because it is right and NOT because it is popular or the majority opinion. And you root for your team because they are YOUR team, and not because you think they might win this year.
Stay home Kerry. Stay home, Gene.
Go BOSOX!!!
You bet your a$$ the Senator from Massa-friggin-chusetts!!!
I am thrilled he is serving your needs, Gene. In your honor, I'll be sure to do my part to help him keep his job.
