Another sign of a sinking Yankee ship

This one had me laughing.
Clemens to return to Yanks

NEW YORK (AP) -- Roger Clemens returned to the New York Yankees, making a dramatic announcement to fans from the owner's box during Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners.

At the end of the seventh-inning stretch, Yankees public address announcer Bob Sheppard told fans to turn their attention to the box, where Clemens was standing with a microphone. As the video scoreboard in right-center televised Clemens, the seven-time Cy Young Award winner made the announcement himself.

"It's a privilege to be back," he said.

Clemens agreed to a minor league contract and most likely will join the Yankees after several weeks getting into shape.
WOW!!!

Imagine the money Steinbrenner and company threw at this guy. And what has he been doing? Playing half seasons in the National Leauge where you have a coffee break for every 8 batters you pitch to.

This IMO is one more reason to believe Steinbrenner must be losing it. A soon-to-be 45-year-old your salvation for an over-the-hill pitching staff? I don't think so...

I can't friggin wait for Roger to come to Fenway. And I promise they will NOT be gentle...

There is chum in the water and Roger is it. You should hear/se some of the commentary on the radio, TV, and message boards here. "Traitor!" "Bum!" "Over the hill!" "Anti-Christ!" I can't post some of the more severe labels here in case the kiddies are reading.

I can't wait to see come of the footage from the local pubs and fans at the stadium. Rogers on the mound at Fenway is going to be the best NYY-Sox game of the year.

ESPN was reporting Clemens' salary will be pro-rated off a $28 million base.
Maybe I'll come back as a "Clemens" in my next life (note to self - sounds lke "lemons") :?

FWIW...

I regularly listen to ESPN radio's Mike & Mike in the Morning while driving the boys to their respective schools. Mike Greenberg is the Jewish geek who loves the Yankees. Mike Golick is a former Notre Dame and pro football player who is the yang to Greenberg's yin. They are a cool combination to listen to, and I think we all could learn a bit from them on how to abuse each other while still having fun.

Mike and Mike are in agreement that the Yankees will probably NOT bring Clemens to Fenway. Roger already has this "favored nation" contract which allows him not to travel with the team, to pick the games he wants to pitch in, etc. The M & M boys were pretty certain that a Clemens Fenway appearance wouldn't happen.

But if it does...

If the Yanks do come back to Fenway without The Rocket, that'll say it all.

On a side note... The real drama now will be when San Francisco and Barry Bonds come to Fenway in June, somewhere around the time Mr. Steroid Bonds will be near breaking Hammerin Hank's home run record.

Earlier this week on Boston's WEEI radio, Curt "we don't need Clemens" Schilling trashed Bonds. When asked if fans should hold their collective noses when Bonds broke the record, Schil basically said 'Of course.' But you know Curt. The boy talks more than I do, and gets into twice as much trouble with his tongue.

Schil stated that Bonds ADMITTED to taking steroids (not exactly...) cheating on his wife (maybe true, but nobody would ever admit) and cheating on his taxes (maybe true, but Bonds isn't THAT stupid).

Wow! Ya gotta love this stuff. 8) This is almost as good as the days when a young Ali would predict the round he'd knock his opponent out.

Anyone for a Schilling vs. Bonds faceoff?

From Curt "we don't need him" Schilling.

... Curt Schilling also said he won't give
... Barry Bonds anything to hit when the
... Giants visit Fenway Park next month.

Don't you just feel the love? 8)
