One common topic I hear in classes are the emphasis on proper form to prevent injury. Some of the most common injuries in karate are strains and sprains, They happen when stretching muscles too much. Rapid movements in kicks and punches may put too extreme of a force on muscles and ligaments, straining them. They recommend not stopping the punch or kick too hard. The end of a strike should be cushioned.

Another common problem is repetitive injury, caused by overusing the joints.
