Well - my dojo got a dose of the TC Florida-style tonight - as we were honored by a visit from Sensei Canna prior to the upcoming Winterfest this weekend.
After dimming the lights and lighting the traditional candles - Van-san took us through his own version of warm-ups - and proceeded right into his (should be patented!) power-enhancing techniques. Aside from moans of pain after the fact - there is so much to digest and work on that we will no doubt have a lot of fuel until the next time we are lucky enough to get a dose of the TC! (I hope we recover enough by Winterfest!)
Van-san changes nothing as far as the kata technique is concerned - but he pulls out of his students a power and an energy that I think surprises everyone once they start to comprehend the concepts he is driving into you. By the time he's finished with you - you are not only wringing wet, sore and "pumped" - but a new comprehension of techniques you have been doing for years begins to dawn into a whole new world of Uechi-ryu. A true convergence of power and technique that opens the door to a new world of kata.
Those of you who have been fortunate enough to be invited to the TC in Brockton, I envy and admire you all. Those who have/had a chance to attend Winterfest and get a dose of VK and are passing it by - you have no idea what you are missing.
A heartfelt thank-you and sincere appreciation to Sensei Canna for visiting my dojo and working with my friends and students... we are all grateful and honored. Looking forward to more at Winterfest! (If we are able to move by then!)
Peace,
Lori

Hello Lori,
The spirit of the Torture Chamber is now in Florida! Where will it go next...
I have been lucky (??) enough to have been invited to the infamous Wed night workout in Brockton some time ago. Now that my Wed night schedule is finally more free (and I have a new shipment of Dit Da Jow) I should be able to moan and groan with the rest of you.
I hope my Thai classes give you guys some aches and pains as well. I'll do my best.
Leaving for Orlando tomorrow morning, should be there by noon. Just in time to miss the snow storm that will be hitting my area.
Look forward to meeting you this weekend.
Raf

Raffi, hope to meet you next Wed nite.
To those in Florida, you are fortunate to have the best of the best with you this week. Wish I were there to work up a sweat along side you. All we can do up north this week is work up a good frost. (George, next time throw another log on the fire at the Hut.) brrrrrrr

I agree with your words about those who are missing Winterfest...With deep regret I am one of them....Neither my job, nor my in-laws (wife's birthday), nor my budget (I've Bounced two payments in the last 3 months), will permit me to attend.
I so wanted to be there!!!!

Dear Lori Sensei,
It was great meeting you in Fl. and training with you.
I wanted to thank you for helping me with the sprained wrist. Believe it or not, it's almost healed. At least enough to train tonight and whack some friends in the spirit of Uechi-Ryu.
Look forward to seeing you at summer camp.
