Krav Maga : How to Defend Yourself ISBN #1583940081
I recently started this book and I am struck by two things in this style.
1. Self-defense is not a mystery, there are no secret techniques. What is presented are very straightforward and practical movements based on natual physical response.
2. Many of the postures are very close to Uechi postures in the kata.
Does anyone here have experience with Krav Magna?

The book I have is called "Fighting Fit" by Col. David Ben-Asher, translated by Miriam Schlesinger.
Perigree books, Putnam Publishing,copyright 1983.
It is the precursor to Krav Maga, and it contains not only the entire repertoire of what is now Krav Maga, but also the entire fitness regimen required of every Israeli in the standing army! Ages 18 - 55 yrs.
All techniques are demonstrated in regular-issue combat dress, and what impressed me is that everyone is expected to master these skills.
Here's a quote:
Page 74:"Self Defense in the World":
Day in and day out we hear about karate, judo, jujitsu, aikido, boxing and wrestling and other methods of defending oneself with or without side arms.
The experts all go to great lengths to explain the merits of each system, touting not only its effectiveness in warding off an assailant, but also its dignity, its inner discipline, its ability to improve powers of concentration, its focus on educational values and consideration for others, and its capability to instill self confidence, agility, speedy reflexes, the capacity to withstand blows and to respond in kind.
It soon becomes obvious however that these arts of combat are a complete way of life.
Martial arts training requires a high degree of specialization and consistent adherence to the particular tradition and approach of each school. A man must devote years of his life before he can hope to reach the level of skil and mastery that would render him capable of putting his knowledge to use for his own defense. [end quote]
The next two sections are entitled:
" The Israeli Forces Defense System"
and "One program for all"
